The disk type of the device has a U-shape. The circular discs are securely attached to the frame, but with the ability to rotate. Also, the design is created in such a way that the knives can be moved apart, increasing or decreasing the distance between them. The value to be set depends on the width of the bed.
A device that vaguely resembles a plow is no less effective. Here the working part is the share. It cuts the top layer and loosens. The removed soil is fed to the side dumps and removed. This design does not expand. The width in this case is fixed - from 25 to 30 cm.
The main disadvantage of such devices is that they can be used on beds with a certain size. If this parameter changes, then it is very difficult to perform the work qualitatively. The more possibilities a manual unit has, the more difficult its assembly becomes. Regardless of the type of hiller, there is a high probability of injury due to careless handling of the tool. Making a fixture yourself
A manual hiller with his own hands can only be made by the person who is minimally able to handle tools. The choice of the type of device should be made based on the characteristics of the soil.
To make a hiller, you need to prepare:
- grinder;
- drill or drilling machine;
- welding machine;
- set of wrenches.
You also need to buy steel pipes and sheet metal. You will need bolts and nuts for fastening.
First, 2 discs with a diameter of 440 mm are cut out of sheet iron. Their thickness should be from 2 mm. The edges are sharpened at a 45 ° angle. A hub is made in the center.
Brackets are cut from the pipes. All parts are connected to each other by welding and bolts. After assembly, the fixture is painted to prevent corrosion. The disc hubs must be securely fastened.
Before starting work, weeds are removed from the garden. After setting up the hiller, a test run is made, checking its accuracy. This type of work is always performed in cloudy weather. If the tubers are exposed, they will burn in the sun.
