The most difficult work is considered to be work at a high altitude, since you have to keep your arms outstretched for a long time and stand on a support in an uncomfortable position. There are several cheap and expensive options for pruning without using a ladder.
For example, designs in the form of a long stick with an attached blade. Such a tool can be made from an old collapsible saw.
For manufacturing you will need:
- hacksaw blade;
- a stick made of wood (thickness 1.5-2 mm, length about 3 m);
- bolt, 2 washers, nut;
- nail 3-4 mm in diameter.
For work, you need to prepare:
- electric drill;
- drill for metal;
- file;
- a hammer;
- nippers;
- pencil.
Step-by-step instructions for making a pruner with a handle:
- Drill a small hole at the end of the stick and the same hole in the hacksaw blade.
- Insert the bolt into the rail, put on the iron part.
- Using a pencil, mark the point for the future pin.
- Drill a hole in the marked location.
- Cut off the tip of the nail with a pair of pliers. Its length should be 4 mm longer than the thickness of the wooden rod.
- Using a file, carefully trim the end of the nail.
- Hammer the resulting pin into the prepared hole. It will act as a pin.
- Secure the hacksaw to the bar with nuts.
Another way to cut branches is to use a chain saw. It leaves an even cut without causing much damage to the tree. However, high-lying branches cannot be removed with such a tool. Therefore, the design should be improved:
- purchase a strong rope 10-12 m long, cut into two equal parts;
- tie a load to the end of the first segment and throw it over a high branch;
- connect the other end to the edge of the chain saw;
- after that, the second rope is used, which is tied to the remaining end of the chain.
Saw a branch by pulling the string from side to side. The work is done both alone and with a partner.
Professional tools
Among the garden tools on sale, there are various models of manual loppers. Externally, the products resemble garden pruners with long handles. Thanks to the built-in mechanism, the length of the handles can be changed.
By the principle of work, the loppers are divided into 2 groups:
- Plane. They have sharp, beveled blades like a garden shear. Used to cut off growing branches.
- Contact. Equipped with thrust plates that compress the branch strongly. It is used for treating trees with dry knots.
According to the mode of action of the mechanism, the loppers are divided into the following types:
- Mechanical. They work through the use of physical force.
- Electrical. They are connected to a permanent power source. Looks like a chain saw with a retractable handle.
- Rechargeable. They are lightweight, produce little noise, are battery-powered and equipped with shoulder straps.
- Rod. A chain is installed in the tube of the product to transmit force to the sector blade. Thanks to the telescopic handle, the boom is extended up to 4 m, and when using the accessories provided in the set - up to 6 m. With the help of such a mechanism, not only high branches are cut, but also harvest from fruit trees.
The most expensive equipment is a gasoline saw. The device allows you to cut dry and damp wood at any angle. The chainsaw is equipped with all control systems and has a power of 15 kW. It is much easier to work with than hand tools.
