Swans for the garden from old tires: ideas and instructions

  • Dec 13, 2020

It is not necessary to buy expensive garden figurines to decorate a summer cottage. You can decorate your yard with old unnecessary items such as car tires. Tire swans will look good on the water if there is an artificial pond, and on the ground. You can also make a flower bed out of them, if you pour earth (in the "back" area) and plant plants.

Necessary materials

To create swans, tires that have minimal tread remain well suited. Worn tires will be easier to cut as they are thinner. If you have a choice, then you should give preference to those wheels that have a longitudinal pattern. It is not recommended to take with steel cord reinforcement, it is better from nylon. Such material will be safe to work with. Before you start creating swans, you should wash your tires and dry them. For further work you will need:

  • roulette;
  • white marker or chalk (for marking);
  • drill and drill;
  • knife with a sharp blade;
  • angle grinder (grinder);
  • cutting disc;
  • pliers;
  • staples;
  • soft metal rod that lends itself well to bending;
  • jigsaw;
  • protective glasses;
  • gloves.

To make the swans white, additional paint is required.

Work begins with creating a blank. To do this, you can first draw a diagram on paper, and then cut it out. It remains to attach the pattern to the wheel and circle.

If the tire is badly worn out (bald), a knife is enough to work. A grinder and a jigsaw will help if the wheel is thick. Power tools will reduce physical costs and speed up the cutting process.

Stages of work

If there is no swan pattern, you will need to make a drawing immediately on the wheel. Along the tire (on the tread side), draw 2 parallel stripes. They will be the neck of a swan. At the end of the strip, spread slightly apart from each other. This extension will be the transition between the neck and torso. On the other side of the stripes, you need to draw a drawing so that you get the shape of an egg. This part will be the head. From it you should draw a beak, which will be in the shape of a triangle.

For a size 13 tire, you should adhere to the following proportions:

  • head - 7 cm wide, 10-12 cm long;
  • beak - length 8-9 cm, width 3-4 cm;
  • neck width - 4-5 cm (in the area of expansion about 8-10 cm), length about 95 cm.

The tail begins to draw near the beak. From the center of the tire, 2 lines are drawn to the sides. This part is a fork of the swan's tail. 2 more parallel lines 30 cm long are drawn from it.

It is recommended to start cutting the swan from the neck. All parallel lines should be cut at once. If you make one side first, then the other will be more difficult to cut. When the workpiece is done, all cuts should be cleaned. At this stage, a knife is used in the work. The cord should not stick out. The next step is to turn the workpiece inside out.

In order for the swan's neck to take a beautiful bend, a soft metal rod must be attached to it. It is laid in the center and secured with staples. Fastening can be done independently from pieces of wire. In those places in which the rod will be attached to the neck, holes are pre-made (with a drill).
