Feeding strawberries during flowering is an important step in caring for this berry crop. Timely introduction of nutrient compositions into the ground will improve the fruiting and taste properties of berries. Many summer residents recommend using fertilizers at least 3 times per season, but the amount of dressings can be changed taking into account individual characteristics.

Purpose and purpose of feeding

Garden plants require feeding at all stages of development. They need to be saturated with trace elements and nutritional supplements, which determine the intensity of growth and yield indicators. At the same time, the requirements of the crop for the composition of the soil change as it grows.

Over time, the soil is depleted, which leads to a deterioration in the condition of strawberries and reduces the volume of the crop. To eliminate such problems, it is necessary to distribute nutrients on the site in time.

Particular attention is paid to feeding the flowering bushes that form the ovaries. At the same time, some gardeners are of the opinion that the procedure is not necessary. But this is a big mistake, since a single application of fertilizers will allow you to get only one portion of large fruits, and new berries will be small and lose their sweet taste.

In addition, strawberries are perennials and need to be replenished after fruiting. In the case of a deficiency of mineral components and vitamins, it will not be able to adapt normally to the conditions of depleted soil and will stop forming berry ovaries in the next season.

When the first peduncles appear on the bushes, as much potassium as possible should be introduced into the ground. The chemical element affects the process of fruit formation and is contained in compositions such as:

  • Wood ash.
  • Chicken droppings.
  • Potassium nitrate.

Root and foliar feeding

Top dressing is performed by 2 methods: foliar and root. In the first case, the gardener needs to spray the aboveground parts with a nutrient solution, and in the second - to water the soil with fertilizer. In terms of efficiency, the methods are almost identical, but root processing has a number of advantages, since with prolonged precipitation, the loss of nutrient components will be minimal.

Both organic and inorganic formulations can be used to root the strawberries. The first include the following options:

  • Potassium nitrate solution. Summer residents prepare a product based on 10 g of top dressing diluted in a bucket of water. To nourish 1 bush, 500 ml of the composition is required.
  • Boric acid solution. During flowering, strawberries are fed with a dressing based on 2 g of boric acid, which is diluted in a 10-liter bucket of water.

Among inorganic preparations, the means "Gumi" and "Baikal EM1" are used.

The foliar technique involves feeding nutrients through the leaves. It is recommended to practice it after the first flowers have formed. Some summer residents stop at a solution of zinc sulfate or complex preparations that are available in every store for summer residents and gardeners. The purchased preparations are diluted in 10 liters of water and used for external processing of strawberries. Popular means include the "Hera", "Agros" and "Rubin" complexes.
