Peppers appeared on the territory of Russia in the 16th century. However, they did not take root in all regions, due to unfavorable climatic conditions. Therefore, breeders have developed resistant varieties of peppers for the Moscow region, which normally adapt to short summers and low temperatures.

Growing pepper in a greenhouse

Abundant fruiting of pepper in the Moscow region is possible only in a greenhouse. The space isolated from the cold allows you to maintain stable temperature conditions, which cannot be achieved in an open bed. The culture needs constant warmth and humidity.

In order for the plant to develop normally and form large fruits, you need to take care of the following microclimate:

  • The temperature is within 23-26 ° C. In a warm environment, plants grow rapidly and begin to bear fruit.
  • Humidity 60-70%. Pepper belongs to moisture-loving garden crops. However, a sharp change in humidity has a detrimental effect on flower stalks and fruits. Therefore, in order to monitor temperature and humidity, specialized thermometers should be installed.
  • Abundant lighting. Bushes need a long day of light. A lack of light stuns growth and negatively affects the harvest. With a lack of natural light, artificial light is placed in the greenhouse.

Light and neutral mixtures with a high concentration of organic matter can be used as soil.

Growing peppers in a greenhouse has several advantages:

  • Planting can be done in early spring.
  • A balanced microclimate protects the crop from sudden temperature surges and other adverse factors that are possible when growing in an open bed.
  • Diseases and parasites are much less common in a greenhouse than in an open environment.
  • The fruits ripen much faster.
  • Greenhouse plants do not need to be hardened.
  • Taking care of adult specimens is much easier.
