Nowadays, tomatoes are an integral part of almost any table. And all thanks to the fact that they began to be grown not only in greenhouses and gardens, but also in people at home, because caring for them does not require any difficult conditions. Thanks to this, the number of varieties is increasing, and at the moment the counter already exceeds 1000. However, this article will focus on a rather new, but already loved by everyone, type of tomato - Firewood.

Appearance
The name of the variety is due to its appearance: the fruits resemble an armful of firewood, elongated and slightly forked at the end.
The bush reaches a height of about 30-40 centimeters, from which it can be understood that this variety is undersized.
It can be grown not only in greenhouses and gardens, but also at home, for example, on a balcony. And this is a very important property for people who do not have their own vegetable garden or garden, but so dream of their own harvest.
Moreover, the bush itself is beautiful. These tomatoes will be a real decoration for any garden, and even more so if you grow them at home. Tomatoes Firewood can easily replace ornamental plants, but they will also bear fruit.
Characteristic
As already mentioned, the bush is undersized, its fruits reach a length of 15 cm, and the average weight is 80 grams. The tomatoes are juicy, sweet and, it should be noted, not watery. The pulp is slightly loose and has relatively few seeds.
Tomatoes become completely ready for food in about 90-100 days, and their ripening is determined quite easily: the green spot should disappear on the stalk. When this happens, the product is ready to eat.
One of the important criteria for tomatoes is yield, and here it did not disappoint: basically, the harvest will fluctuate from 1.5 to 2 kilograms, but often you will collect more.
Growing and harvesting
Like all tomatoes, the Firewood variety goes through the stages of seedling, picking and planting in the ground. Even later, leaving and, finally, collection follows. Let's look at all the steps in order.
Seedling
Seedlings should be grown in late February - early March. I note that most amateur gardeners, when planting seeds, do not even check them for the presence of so-called empty seeds. And although the Drova variety is famous for its germination, it is better to play it safe.
To weed out unusable seeds, you need to throw them in water and shake well. Those that come up are dummies, we throw them away.
Picking and landing
Probably, this word will not be familiar to novice gardeners, but do not be afraid, because the picking procedure is quite simple and quick.
The procedure is carried out after the plant has grown to 10-15 centimeters or at least 3 leaves have already appeared on it. First of all, we transplant the seedlings into separate containers, then we need to harden the plants so that they are resistant to temperature changes. This requires regularly taking them outside, gradually increasing the time spent there.
As for planting in open ground, then it must be carried out at an air temperature of 15-20 degrees, while remember that quite often tomatoes break under the weight of their own fruits, and they will not be hindered by a small support, which is better made during landing.
Care and collection
The Firewood variety is quite resistant to pests and insects, however, several anti-pest measures will not interfere with caring for it.
Often, if we talk about open ground, people throw eggshells or onion skins into the hole. If your tomatoes are in a pot, drainage can be used to care for them so that the plant gets more air.
One way or another, this variety will have a harvest in any case, and all of the above measures are needed to a greater extent to increase it.
