Good afternoon, my reader. Needles can often be seen in landscape design projects. You can buy several trees and place them on your lot. Or you can propagate it yourself using cuttings.

Features of coniferous reproduction

In order to successfully reproduce needles, it is necessary to determine its species and genus. For example, thuja, juniper, cypresses and yews painlessly survive this procedure and take root well. But larch and Konik spruce are very ill after cuttings. Therefore, it is very difficult to strengthen them with cuttings, it is rarely possible even with experienced gardeners.

The key to successful cuttings is the correct selection of cuttings. They must be young, strong, green. They must be taken from a healthy and dense plant. It is logical to assume that no cuttings should be taken from a stunted plant. Also, avoid using side shoots, chances are your tree will grow crooked from them.

Cutting at home

First, decide which coniferous plant you want to propagate in this way. Inexperienced amateur gardeners are advised to take thuja, juniper or cypress.

Follow the rules for preparing cuttings:

  • separate the shoot from the main branch together with the "heel" - a small piece of wood;
  • remove unnecessary needles from the trunk, which may fall into the ground during planting;
  • in this way, connect 5 to 8 shoots and tie;
  • dip the resulting "bouquet" into the Epin solution for 12 hours;
  • afterwards, to stimulate the development of the root system, dust them with a special agent. The most popular and effective is Kornevin;
  • then fill the container for planting with sand, treated with a solution of potassium permanganate, and plant the cuttings 5 - 6 cm apart;
  • make sure that there are no voids in the hole;
  • now the seedlings can be covered with plastic and placed in a dark place;
  • do not forget to water and air them periodically.
Within a year after these manipulations, the plants will get stronger and will be ready for planting in open ground.

Planting cuttings in the ground

IMPORTANT! The beds must be dug at least 15 cm from the edge of the formwork. This condition is necessary to maintain an acceptable temperature and humidity level.

We separate the cuttings in the same way as for planting in the sand - a young strong shoot with a "heel". Cut a small piece of wood from it with a knife; this wound will stimulate the growth and development of the future tree in the future. After that, the shoot must be soaked in growth and root stimulants.

We remove all the needles from the lower part, but you cannot touch the top of the head - this is the growth point, it is responsible for the straight shape of the plant.

Stick the pegs into the ground to a depth of 3 cm, and distribute the shoots at a distance of 5 - 10 cm from each other. Next, treat the soil with a fungicide and cover with a film. So the cuttings will develop for about a year, for the winter they will need to be covered with wooden shields.

Coniferous cuttings care

  • Avoid sunburn on the plant. To protect against straight lines, the best film can be covered with loose lime;
  • water the soil, loosen it slightly, do not let the soil dry out completely;
  • periodically air the plants, open the film and other protection;
  • monitor and process cuttings from parasites and diseases in time.
