Good afternoon, my reader. Many garden owners want to grow rose bushes, but their wishes do not always come true, since these flowers are a very difficult and finicky plant to grow. Even if the gardener makes every effort to care for the rose bush, a good result is not guaranteed. Another difficulty faced by specialists is winter cold and frost. Because of such nuances, even experienced gardeners do not always take up their cultivation, but instead stop at other flowers.

The method of grafting roses onto rose hips is an effective way to get good results and grow these flowers. The advantages of this technology: the capricious flower is fed with the energy of the hardy wild rose hips. From such manipulations, the growth of roses is accelerated, flowering occurs earlier, the seedlings are not subject to the harm of frost, and diseases bypass them.

Grafting a rose on a dog rose: an algorithm of actions

Even an inexperienced gardener can handle this procedure. To carry out, you will need a knife, electrical tape, film, grafting shears and scissors. Late April to mid-May is the ideal time for vaccinations.

  • First you need to decide on the stock. Frost-resistant rose hips are best suited for this, while the preferred age is 2-3 years, and the rootstock thickness is about 10 mm.
  • Then we prepare the scion. We recommend cutting off the cuttings on the day of vaccination if it is done in summer. If in spring, it is necessary to prepare the cuttings in December-November by wrapping them in plastic and putting them in a cold room.
  • To clear the rose hips from the ground, cut a rose hip in the shape of the letter "T" at the grafting site.
  • Separate the stalk of the rose from the "shield" with the bud and stem.
  • Expand the incision on the rosehip, place the scion there.
  • Attach to each other (rose hips and cuttings of roses) with electrical tape, while leaving the "eye" free.
  • The result of the work, the resulting bush, is covered with earth.

Organizing an event in autumn or winter

There are cases in which gardeners do not have time to vaccinate a rose on a rosehip in spring or summer. Such a process is a little more complicated, the most favorable time for it is the end of autumn - mid-December.

In general, the technology is similar to the summer one, but in cold seasons, cooked pink cuttings require additional heating. When harvesting cuttings, 2-3 buds should be left on them, and after grafting, the scion should be placed in molten paraffin before the film is wrapped. After that, you need to tie the resulting bushes in bundles and put them in a vertical position, while covering the roots with sawdust moistened with water. Two weeks from the moment of vaccination, observe the temperature regime: 10-15 degrees in the room where the seedlings are stored.

When spring comes, the bushes are placed in sun-warmed soil and await flowering.
