When using it, the cuttings of a rose are wrapped in several layers of paper, and when a certain humidity and temperature are maintained, the cuttings germinate and can be ready for planting.

Why the burrito method is good

The technology is somewhat different from standard cuttings, which entails both pros and cons. Among the clear positives:

  • higher productivity and survival rate of cuttings;
  • the ability to control the conditions for keeping cuttings until planting and monitor the development of the root system;
  • the ability to reject cuttings that have not sprouted at all, and not to plant them in open ground.

This method has fewer drawbacks, so let's single out one, the most significant:

  • The gardener has practically no opportunity to reject seemingly sprouted cuttings before planting.

    If all the branches have given roots, then we can assume that they will all grow into rose bushes. This is very far from the truth, and many cuttings may not take root, even though they have roots.

How to cut with the burrito method

First of all, select material for grafting - these should be strong branches of an adult plant. Do not take summer young shoots, they will simply rot in damp paper. Store-bought roses from bouquets will not work either, most often plants of such varieties do not grow in central Russia. Simple garden roses or other varieties of flowers that have already survived at least one winter in your garden work best.

A step-by-step guide to grafting roses:

  1. Cut the cuttings. From the middle part of an adult shoot, cut a stalk about 20 cm long so that it has at least three dormant buds.
  2. Preparing for wrapping. Before wrapping in paper, soak the branches in a growth stimulator for about 4-6 hours, then treat with a specialized antiseptic.
  3. We wrap it up. Prepare paper or newspaper folded in several layers. Collect the cuttings in groups of 4-6 pieces. Wrap each one with several layers of paper. Moisten the wrapper with water so that it is saturated through and through, but does not release water from itself (excess moisture can be drained). Now wrap the pink burrito in plastic wrap.
  4. Now remove the bundles in a cool place (16-18 degrees) and wait for the roots to appear. Check the cuttings once a week by gently unrolling the paper. If mold or signs of rotting appear somewhere - the whole package is scrapped.
  5. In about a month, the first roots will appear.

How to plant cuttings in the ground

For starters, roses can be planted in home pots. When enough roots appear, plant the cuttings in a special soil for roses so that only one bud remains above the ground, and two should be hidden in the soil. Provide good drainage. At first, it is better to cover the plant in order to create greenhouse conditions and maintain a temperature of 22-23 degrees. After 1-2 weeks, shelter is no longer required.

When the weather is stable outside the window (most likely, this will happen in late May - early June), you can plant a rose in a street flower garden. When planting, feed with organic fertilizers and cut the plant, leaving 3-4 buds on it.

The rose loves sunlight and warmth, but at first it is better to hide it from direct rays.
