- There is not enough room for the plant in the pot. Its roots begin to sprout through the drainage holes and completely line the bottom.
- Dracaena has not grown for a long time and has been in the same pot for more than 3 years. At the same time, the leaves begin to turn yellow.
- Must be transplanted after purchase.
- Souring of the soil is seen due to excessive moisture. In this case, there is a possibility of decay of the root system. Midges begin to accumulate over the affected plant, and various parasites can be seen in the ground.
If the dracaena was bought in winter, then it is better to wait for spring for transplanting. In March or April, it will be much easier for a flower to take root in a new land. It is during this period that the active growth of dracaena falls. She begins to lengthen and release new sheets.
You can transplant throughout the entire growing season. That is, not only in spring, but also in summer or early autumn.
Choosing the right pot
For a plant to be healthy, you need the right pot. The transplant pot must have the following parameters:
- The diameter must be observed. It should be 3 cm larger than the previous pot. Do not take too large a container, as water will stagnate in it, which will lead to the death of the dracaena.
- The shape of the pot is not important for a small flower. For an adult palm, it is necessary to take a glass-shaped container that has good stability.
- The minimum diameter for a tall plant (over 35 cm) is 15 cm.
- There should be drainage holes at the bottom to drain excess water from the substrate.
The pot material can be anything, it doesn't matter. The main thing is that the container is strong and stable. It is most convenient to use strong plastic.
Before transplanting into a new container, it must be processed. First washed with soap and then rinsed well with clean water.

For a correct transplant, in addition to a new substrate and a pot, you will need to prepare the following:
- crushed brick, crushed stone, pebbles or expanded clay for drainage;
- a bottle with a spray bottle;
- secateurs for cutting damaged roots;
- growth stimulator (as needed).

- 24 hours before transplanting, the plant must be watered abundantly so that the entire substrate is saturated with water.
- On the day of planting, 2 cm of drainage and 1 cm of soil are poured onto the bottom of a new container.
- The soil needs to be slightly moistened.
- Carefully remove the dracaena from the old container, lightly tapping on it.
- They clean the root system from the ground and cut off all damaged parts with a pruner.
- Places of cuts are treated with crushed activated carbon and sprayed with water from a spray bottle.
- Place the plant in the center of a new container and cover it with fresh earth. They tamp it a little.
- It is necessary to pay attention to the position of the root collar. It should be at ground level.
- Water the plant and add a growth stimulant.
When propagating plants using cuttings, they act in the same way, only the roots are not washed. In the future, the sprouts are transplanted to another place while preserving the earthen coma.
