Good afternoon, my reader. Delicate violets have divided the society of amateur flower growers, at least in two. The first half believes that these are unpretentious plants that bloom almost all year round. The second calls Saintpaulias capricious beauties who only increase the green mass and do not want to plant buds in any way. Both those and others will be judged by the rules of agricultural technology.

Brief description of the flower

There are not so many plants in indoor floriculture that could compete with violets. For more than 100 years, these compact bushes have been decorating our homes.

The natural habitat of the flower is the mountainous area of Southeast Africa. Sometimes it is found near waterfalls and rivers, where high humidity is expressed by water dust and fog.

It is important for a stunted herb with short stems and rosettes of leaves to create ideal conditions. Otherwise, gentle Saintpaulias will refuse to bloom altogether.

Flower care conditions

The cared-for plant blooms most of the year. And only at the end of the season does he need a short period of rest. If a violet lays buds extremely rarely or refuses to bloom at all, this is an alarming signal. He notifies that the plant requires proper care.

Priming

An important condition for the health of Saintpaulia and its flowering is the correct choice of soil. A delicate root system is categorically not suitable for heavy, dense soil with high acidity. The ideal pH scale should be in the range of 5.5-6.5 units.

Potting soil can be purchased at a specialty store or made with your own hands. To do this, low-lying peat is mixed with sod land, vermiculite (perlite) in equal proportions.

Ideally, you should get a light, loose soil that absorbs moisture well and allows air to pass through. This is necessary for the roots to receive the required amount of nutrients and breathe.

Do not forget about the drainage at the bottom of the flowerpot, which consists of improvised material - expanded clay, foam, pebbles. Stagnant water increases the risk of root rot.

Lighting

Violets need long daylight hours (10-12 hours) for good development and abundant flowering. Lighting should be diffused, excluding the influence of direct sunlight on the plant.

With a lack of light, the leaves of Saintpaulia stretch out, shrink and become pale. Therefore, in the cold season, the flower needs artificial lighting with a phytolamp.

In the summer season, the violet is placed on the northern or western windowsills, and in the winter - on the southern and eastern ones.

Watering

One of the main conditions for caring for a plant is competent watering. The quality and amount of moisture will determine whether the plant will bloom or not. Saintpaulias prefer soft, settled water at room temperature.

In this case, the soil should not be poured so that excess water flows out of the pan. It is enough just to moisten its surface. This can be done with a spray bottle, avoiding moisture getting on the sheet sockets.

Top dressing

Flowering plants require a large amount of nutrients to form buds. However, for top dressing, it is better to choose special complex fertilizers: Saintpaulia, Uniflor, Master, etc. If the instructions are followed, the plant will receive a properly balanced diet.

If the indoor violet does not want to bloom, but only grows leaf sockets, this is a signal that it does not have enough light, heat and power. Perhaps you should pay a little more attention to the delicate plant so that the situation changes for the better.
