Good afternoon, my reader. Lemons, tangerines, avocados and even pomegranates - experts can grow all this in an apartment with an effort. And if citrus bushes are a frequent product in flower shops, then it is much more difficult to find pomegranates in their assortment. An alternative solution in this case is to grow a bush from a bone. You will get a small tree, flowering and fruiting. Gardeners are captivated by the beauty and aroma of pink pomegranate buds, and the simplicity of care is even more inclined to plant this plant.

Characteristics of the pomegranate tree

It is notable for its low growth: only 90-100 cm, constant and abundant flowering. Pink flowers are found throughout the shrub, they can be in inflorescences, or they can be alone. However, you need to wait for such a wonderful phenomenon: fruiting and blooming of buds can occur no earlier than three years after planting.

The plant needs a bright place, protection from direct sunlight to avoid burns on the leaves. The ideal spot is a southern windowsill with shade at midday.

Planting a pomegranate

The first step is to prepare the planting material:

  • First you need to buy a beautiful, healthy and large fruit in the market or in the vegetable section of the store. Avoid specimens with rot, mold, or dents.
  • The next step is to break open and select some seeds. 4-5 pieces will be enough.
  • Remove the pulp from the prepared grains by rinsing with water, the initial option is hard seeds of a light shade. If they are greenish and soft, do not use them for planting.
  • Prepare a solution of "Zircon" or "Epin", for this add 2 drops of the solution to a teaspoon of water. Then put the seeds in this solution, soak in it for 12 hours.

At this time, it is possible to create the desired soil. In principle, a universal earth mix will do. If you want to prepare the mixture yourself, this will require nutritious soil, peat and sand.

Fill containers with earthy mixture and plant the seeds 1-1.5 cm deep. Cover with earth, moisten with warm water and cover with plastic. By doing this, a prototype of the greenhouse is created, and the seeds will sprout quickly. The favorable temperature will be 25-30 degrees.

It is customary to plant pomegranates in November or March, so they emerge in about two weeks. At other times of the year, germination will take more than a month.

Rules for the care of young sprouts

When sprouts appear, the container is rearranged to a place with sufficient lighting and the watering and soil condition are closely monitored. The best way to water is by spraying with a spray bottle.

Seedlings on which 2-3 leaves have grown must be transplanted into separate containers. For them, you need to prepare a special soil containing:

  • leaf humus, 1 part;
  • turf, 2 parts;
  • sand, 0.5 parts;
  • peat, 0.5 parts.

It is not necessary to choose spacious pots, because the pomegranate has a shallow root system. Good drainage is more important.

The plant requires abundant and regular watering, it is carried out when the soil dries up. It should always be damp and the pallet should be free from moisture. In winter, plantings need additional lighting. Otherwise, the plant will stretch out or stop growing.

The nuances of growing pomegranate

  • Pomegranate does not like the heat in the summer season, it suits the temperature of 18-25 degrees. In winter, it is 12-18 degrees. In spring, the plant will do well on the balcony or in the front garden.
  • The plant needs fertilization from spring to autumn. To do this, feed the pomegranate with a universal nutritional formula every two weeks. Be careful with nitrates in fertilizers, do not use purchased ones if you are going to eat fruits.
  • Do not be alarmed when the tree sheds its leaves and do not move it to an overly warm room in winter. This will slow down the growth of the pomegranate.
  • February is the time for pomegranate buds to bloom, at this time provide it with sufficient watering and a lot of light, and remove dried shoots.
  • Such plantings are transplanted once a year, it is necessary to choose a container 2 cm larger in diameter.
