How to choose an unpretentious home plant
Unpretentious flowers do not require daily care and can grow almost anywhere in the house where you define them. But some points when choosing play an important role:
- how much the plant loves light and moisture;
- are there any differences in care in the winter and summer periods;
- how to transplant;
- what kind of soil to pick up.
Geranium (Pelargonium)
This plant is called Pelargonium, since the common geranium grows only in the garden. The name of the indoor flower "geranium" came long ago, and it stuck.
Pelargonium has a peculiar and rather strong smell, which insects do not like. But for many, geranium blooms cause headaches if they stay close to the flower for a long time.
She loves the sun very much, but she cannot stand frequent watering, since the root system rots from the abundance of water. At room temperature, pelargonium blooms all year round, except for two winter months: December and January.
The plant propagates by seeds, but cuttings can also be planted at home. If the plant is young, then the flower is transplanted every year in the spring before it begins to grow intensively.
Begonia
This is a very unpretentious plant. It also blooms all year round. This plant loves light, and the soil and temperature do not matter for it.
It is planted with cuttings, which, after pruning, are placed in water, and as soon as the roots appear, it can be planted in a pot.
Balsam
Balsam blooms so profusely that sometimes, because of its flowers, you cannot see the leaves. It has a long flowering period, from June to October.
The plant loves sunlight, but not bright, but diffused or indirect. Therefore, it is better not to keep it where the sun's rays fall.
After three to four years, it needs to be replanted, since young plants bloom better and more abundantly than old ones.
Fuchsia
This plant can do great under artificial light. It produces abundant color from early spring to late autumn.
To extend this period, immediately after the first flowers have fallen off, the remains must be cut off, and the flower must be fed. Fuchsia sheds foliage for the winter, and begins to turn green by the spring. She needs such a rest for abundant seasonal flowering.
The plant propagates by transplanting leaves with strong deciduous petioles. It is unpretentious to the composition of the soil, but a mixture of black soil, peat, sand and leafy earth suits it best.
Abutilon
This plant is also called indoor maple for the similarity of leaves in shape. It is very unpretentious to care for, and you just need to remember to water it and it is advisable to keep it in the light all the time.
In the spring and summer, you can prepare cuttings and plant new plants from them. The soil is prepared from a mixture of leafy earth, humus, turf and sand.
Spathiphyllum
Another name for its flagleaf is the shape of the leaves. Its owners note snow-white flowers and a very pleasant aroma. The plant loves warmth, so that the temperature is around 25-27 degrees and humid air, but at the same time it should be avoided in direct sunlight.
Hibiscus, or Chinese rose
It is an evergreen shrub that grows at home up to two meters in height. It blooms in large red, white or pink buds.
The plant loves abundant watering and needs periodic feeding. In winter, it is better to rearrange it where the temperature does not exceed 16-17 degrees Celsius.
Anthurium
There are a lot of varieties of this flower. There are flowering and decorative deciduous species. The plant is prized for the beauty of the bedspread surrounding the center. It is either bright red, or crimson, or pink. There are species with white. The plant loves light and warmth. It can be watered infrequently, it prefers the spray method.
Clivia
This plant has elongated dark green leaves. The flower emerges from the bottom of the leaf in the form of an arrow with large yellow-orange buds that look like bells. There can be up to 30 such buds.
Clivia is a flower that can calmly stay in the shade for a long time. If you feed it periodically, then it will bloom almost all year long with a short break in the first days of summer.
