The most picky and unpretentious domestic lilies are Asian hybrids. Their flowers are distinguished by a variety of coloring: spots, stripes, specks. But they have no flavor at all.
They feel good both in partial shade and on illuminated window sills, are resistant to diseases and pests, and require medium watering.
The rest of the varieties of domestic lilies are more sensitive to care and demanding on conditions. During the flowering period, they need warmth and light, and during the dormant period, they need shade and coolness. The plant needs fresh air, so the windows are periodically kept open to avoid drafts.
After flowering, the plant is transferred to a dry, cool place, preferably partial shade. You can transplant into fresh soil with ash. Top dressing and watering during the dormant period should be rare.
Planting a home lily
Lily bulbs are best purchased in the fall. The tubers should be free of spots, scales, folds and unevenness. Before planting in a pot, the bulb is disinfected in a weak solution of potassium permanganate.
A good drainage layer must be placed on the bottom of the pot. Fill with soil for bulbous plants or any light soil with high nutritional value. The tuber is planted in the center of the container, the distance to the walls of the pot should not be less than 3 cm. The bulb is deepened halfway into the ground.
If an already flowering plant was purchased at a flower shop, then 3-4 days after purchase, it is necessary to add a small portion of fertilizer to the soil in order to maintain the flowering of the lily.
Diseases and pests
One of the most common diseases is red bulb rot. It manifests itself at low temperatures and high humidity.
The bulb is carefully removed from the soil, and all affected areas are pruned. The cut off places are treated with fungicides and sprinkled with activated charcoal, crushed into powder. The bulb is dried for 3 days, placed in the ground and the frequency of watering must be reduced without fail.
Common insect pests that attack the flower:
- spider mite;
- shield;
- mealybug.
It is easy to get rid of them with the help of insecticides. And proper care will help to avoid their appearance.
House lily is a sensitive and capricious plant, but with proper care, it will delight its owner with the incredible beauty of the flowers, delicious aroma and rich green foliage.
