I was motivated to write this article by a reader's comment, perhaps a little sarcastic, but I took it literally. I was asked to talk about slicing bread, and I just cannot refuse such an urgent request. Let's get back to our topic and share the best way below.
On store shelves, you can often find bread already cut into pieces, so the consumer loses this seemingly simple skill. There are several options for preparing a loaf for table setting, they came to us from the past, when there were no supermarkets with a huge selection of products. For example, my grandmother's sister gave me this method, and now I always use it. The fact is that she held the position of manager in a railway station restaurant and learned from there a lot of knowledge and culinary techniques. Of course, her knowledge was useful to me as well: at the institute I went to the site with a construction team and was chef's assistant for two months, I also used my own cutting method of bread.
Correct cutting of bread: method and parameters
It consists in the following: as preparatory measures - take out a cutting board and a knife sharpened in advance. Then we cut the sample in half lengthwise, not across, as most do. The next step is to turn both parts over so that the cut is on top, we begin to chop into slices, while making them thin, like in a restaurant. I recommend making an incision exactly in the place where the crust is, so the pieces are beautiful and even. The characteristics of such a slice are 1 centimeter wide and weigh about 20 grams. As a rule, I get identical and perfect pieces, although I have been buying sliced Borodino bread for a long time. And it's good that the hands do not forget the proven grandmother's way.
You can check the correctness of your cutting with a measuring tool: for a 13 cm loaf, 13 identical slices are obtained. You should put the sliced bread in an open bread bin in 2 rows, protecting it from drying out and dust with a clean towel on top, or a waffle one.
By preparing the bread in this way, you will decorate the table and cheer yourself up, as I did in time for cutting a fresh roll, for which I want to thank the commentator who expressed this wonderful request. Of course, you can't eat the whole loaf at one meal, so after eating, you can put the remaining pieces into a closed bread bin or refrigerator, as mentioned above.
