Good afternoon, my reader. Ficus Benjamin is a popular houseplant that has many subspecies that are similar to each other: several branches, many rather large leaves. He is quite capricious, and reacts to uncomfortable conditions for himself with a deterioration in appearance - this is how he signals his dissatisfaction. For example, what are the falling leaves talking about?

Improper watering

Ficuses need to be watered through a tray so that moisture does not accumulate in the soil - this leads to rotting of the roots, which the flower signals by wilting and drying. When watering is normalized, it quickly recovers.

It will be useful to add special fertilizers for ficuses or universal minerals to watering, especially if young leaves dry up.

Temperature

The ideal temperature for Benjamin ficus varies from 18 to 25 degrees, while it does not tolerate stagnant air. If the room is too hot, the leaves turn yellow, if it is too cold, then they simply wither and fall off. In any case, this leads to their death.

The best place for a ficus plant is a windowsill or a warm balcony.

Low humidity

Ficus leaves turn yellow in dry air, especially if accompanied by heat. Better to move the plant to a different location or regularly spray it with a spray bottle or wipe the leaves with a wet rag.

Incorrect transplant

Ficus Benjamin needs a transplant every couple of years. The rules for this process:

  • pull out the flower and completely shake off the old soil;
  • place it in the center of the new pot;
  • put drainage down, then sprinkle with new earth;
  • fertilize;
  • water.

If you do something wrong, the plant may not adapt, which will affect the state of its leaves.

Depletion of the earth

If you do not transplant ficus or use old soil, neglecting fertilizers, then the land will be depleted and will not be able to provide enough nutrients. It should be changed during transplantation and nutrients should be added regularly.

Rotten roots

The roots can rot not only due to stagnant water, but also for various other reasons (including the old age of the flower). To check this, you need to get the flower out of the ground and examine the root system: everything that has rotted is cut off, the places of the cuts are treated with an antiseptic, the soil changes. If the ficus can grow new roots, then the leaves will stop turning yellow and fall off.

When is dropping normal?

Ficus Benjamin, like most plants, loses old foliage in autumn and winter - this is a natural process. The main thing is that the whole plant does not go bald.

Ficuses are usually shed from lower or damaged leaves, so when young foliage falls, you should also be on your guard.
