Good afternoon, my reader. Summer residents employed in vegetable beds do not always have time to devote full attention to flower beds. Therefore, they try to plant flower beds with perennials that do not require constant care. However, even among the annual flowers, there are unpretentious specimens that can be grown without seedlings and excessive efforts.

Description of ursinia

A bright, unpretentious perennial plant originated in Europe from South Africa. Ursinia is also found in the wild in America, where it is called the "treasure of the fields." In the Russian climate, the flower is grown as an annual crop.

Among the varieties of ursinia, there are herbaceous and semi-shrub species, which reach a height of 50-60 cm. On the bare or slightly edged trunks, there are pinnately dissected bright green leaves, slightly resembling carrot tops.

Flower baskets 5-6 cm in diameter are collected in large inflorescences, which is why they form a lush cap. All parts of the culture - stem, leaves and flowers - exude a rich aroma.

Ursinia attracts the attention of gardeners due to the brightness of the buds blooming all summer. Their bright orange color with a copper tint makes the flower catchy and memorable. There are varieties with bicolor or lemon-yellow buds. However, a flower surrounded by foliage with a glossy tint does not lose its attractiveness from this.

Growing

To decorate a flower bed with an overseas flower does not require growing seedlings. An unassuming plant grows well after sowing seeds. The main thing is that the planting site is well warmed up by the sun and not in the shade of other plantings.

The lack of light negatively affects the decorativeness of the culture. The intensity of flowering decreases, and the buds will be much smaller than usual.

Planting material is embedded in the soil no deeper than 3 cm. The soil should be loose, without humus. On soil with a high concentration of organic matter, the plant begins to actively increase the green mass to the detriment of the formation of buds.

Care

A spectacular flower does not need abundant watering. The soil is moistened only in very hot and dry weather. During the growing season and bud formation, you can feed the plant with a weak solution of mineral fertilizers.

Ursinia buds open sequentially, one by one. To make the bush look neat, it is advisable to remove wilted baskets in time. Such care is enough for the plant to bloom violently all summer, right up to the first frost.

Application

Bright flowers surrounded by emerald green of delicate leaves are widely used in landscape design. In mixed and single plantings, Ursinia is used to decorate flower beds, mixborders, rock gardens. For this, varieties of medium height (40-60 cm) with a bright orange or two-tone color are well suited:

  • Undine;
  • Aurora;
  • Bright Orange;
  • Multi-colored.

Dwarf varieties with a height of 20 to 30 cm are used for planting in hanging pots, as well as when decorating a border, a rabatka, an alpine slide.

Ursinia appeared relatively recently on the European flower market. But her catchy beauty and unpretentiousness has already managed to win a place in the sun - she increasingly began to be found in Russian gardens.
