Many summer residents dream of a personal bath, but not everyone has the opportunity to build a capital structure. But you can still install a small steam room on the site. We make a barrel bath with our own hands - the construction will take very little time and effort.

A ready-made barrel bath can be purchased at a hardware store, but it is much cheaper to build it yourself. Illustration for the article is taken from open sources

Steam room construction

First of all, you should stock up on the necessary materials for construction. You need to purchase:

  • a sufficient number of grooved coniferous wood planks, their size should be 45x90 mm;
  • edged boards for interior decoration;
  • 2 beams made of durable wood;
  • wooden door block;
  • canopy made of dense fabric;
  • metal hoop;
  • stove - electric, gas or wood-burning.

Construction should begin with pouring the base. To do this, in the selected area, you need to remove a layer of soil by 20-30 cm, put a wooden formwork and pour concrete into it. In order to prevent rotting of wooden parts, it is necessary to avoid their contact with the ground. When the concrete is completely dry (most often three weeks are enough for this), you need to remove the formwork and you can start assembling the frame.

At a distance of 1.5 m, 2 strong beams should be installed parallel to each other. Their size will be the length of the finished structure.

Between the beams at the same distance, it is required to put and connect with long screws 4 supporting transverse boards, in which it is necessary to cut out recesses that repeat the shape of the barrel. To give the structure strength, experts advise screwing small metal corners in the corners and at the joints of the boards.

The bottom row of grooved boards should be nailed to the base prepared in this way. The next step is to install end walls and partitions. They must be securely attached to the frame. To facilitate this work, shallow grooves can be cut out in the already nailed boards at the attachment points.

Then you need to continue building the walls of the grooved boards using the groove-to-thorn method. The ends of the boards should be sanded and fastened with transverse beams. They must be installed so that they do not interfere with the installation of the door block.

When the barrel is completely assembled, it is necessary to fasten it with metal hoop-ties and put the door.

The next step is to equip the steam room inside. For the natural drainage of dirty water, the floor must be made with holes and placed at a slight slope.

Experts advise to install the stove at the entrance in the corner: it is more convenient and safe, in addition, the heat from the heating device will flow evenly around the entire perimeter of the room.

Before installing the curtains, you should make ventilation holes under them and close them with wooden or metal gratings.

Along the walls, it is required to place comfortable benches made of hardwood - oak, linden, alder, aspen. They must be carefully sanded so that there are no knots and roughness.

At the last stage, the finished bath should be covered with a roof. Any material is suitable for this - you can use corrugated board, shingles, roofing material, thick cellophane.

To ensure fire safety and protect wood from fungus, the outside of the bath needs to be treated with an impregnation, for example, a fire retardant compound with biologically active components KSD-A. Inside the steam room, it is advisable to cover the wooden parts with a layer of linseed oil. This will improve the properties of the wood and greatly extend its service life.

When finished, the structure is in the shape of a cylinder with a height of about 2 m and a length of about 3 m.
