Cacti do not grow quickly, so they are rarely transplanted. Depending on the specific situation, this procedure is carried out in February or March.
A cactus needs to be transplanted if:
- the pot is filled with roots;
- the plant has taken on an unhealthy appearance;
- growth has slowed down;
- the epidermis has lost its elasticity.
Pot and soil mixture
Do not use a large container that will retain a lot of moisture. Prefer a small pot with drainage holes.
Check out the characteristics of the cultivated cactus in advance. And depending on the type, choose a "home" for him.
Take a closer look at the pottery. In it, excess water will evaporate through the walls of the container.
For small cacti, plastic pots work well. But choose only high-quality plastic, because it will crack under the sun.
So, you bought a plant with soil. The latter must be changed without fail. Choose a soil mixture that is loose and breathable. It is best to buy a special soil designed for cactus plants, or mix universal with coarse sand.

Preparation
Dry the soil, stop watering for up to three days. Next, remove the top layer from the ground, turn the container over. Tap the bottom of the pot on a hard surface, knock out the ground. Do not use force.
For a dense soil mixture, place it in warm water, rinse and dry for 10 minutes. Hang the cactus.
Inspect the root collar of the purchased product, and then trim off any damaged roots with a clean tool. Apply sulfur powder to cut areas. Dry.
Different kinds
Do not neglect the features and types of cacti when transplanting them. For example, mountain cereus needs additives that contain crushed marble or granite. Mammillaria thrive in the soil with the presence of leafy soil, and desert prickly pears love additives in the form of sand from the river.
Add brick chips to the substrate to the cacti, because they do not need an abundance of moisture. Cacti with light pubescence will develop in ground with powdered eggshells. If your pet has a turnip-like root system, then clay is suitable for him.
After processing the roots, proceed with the transplant. Put the drainage on the bottom of the pot (about 2 cm), sprinkle the prepared soil mixture in a small layer, place the cactus in the middle. Cover the roots with earth, tamp a little. Water the plant liberally.
