And it would be okay if harmless snakes or snakes are constantly crawling on a visit. And it happens that all sorts of poisonous vipers choose a foreign garden as their habitat. But these snakes, in general, cannot be destroyed. For in many regions of Russia, vipers are included in the Red Book as a rare (or even disappearing) animal species. Reasons for the appearance of vipers on the site
But here we must also add that killing snakes, in general, is already a pointless exercise. After all, they are all introverted creatures who do not at all seek to “communicate” with a person, that is, they do not seek special meetings with us. And if vipers constantly appear on your site, it just means that something attracts them here. And with a little thought, you yourself can determine what snakes found so attractive on your land.
- These are most likely mice, rats, or other rodents. And if there are quite a lot of such animals in your garden (and around), then it may well become a very tasty place for hunting vipers.
- The second bait for snakes can be mountains of rubbish and all kinds of construction waste that have not been removed for a long time. Such "deposits" of old things are also an excellent shelter for a snake, where it settles with pleasure.
However, killing the same vipers is simply inhumane, given that these snakes never attack first. You can even say that such animals sometimes help gardeners “in the house”, destroying all kinds of rodents that spoil many plants in the garden.
How to remove snakes from the site?
However, getting rid of the neighborhood with vipers is still necessary. But you can do this in a completely humane way, simply without creating conditions for them to live in your area.
- Disassemble the heaps of rubbish and do not create abandoned places on your territory at all, bringing it in full order.
- Get rid of rodents by cultivating the land and plantings. Or get a cat, for example - they (usually) do an excellent job of this task, thus depriving the snakes of the local food supply.
- Do not drive away hedgehogs if they also appear on your land. Hedgehogs are practically not dangerous for humans, but they are very dangerous for snakes. Therefore, do not destroy the hedgehog holes and try not to scare them in person.
- Garlic is another good option to ward off a snake from your land. Vipers absolutely cannot stand its smell, so planting garlic in the garden will drive away such a snake better than any shovel.
What if you meet a viper?
Environmentalists believe that snakes are very fond of settling in areas where people are only from time to time. This is due to the fact that in such places there are no predators and, as a rule, there is little vegetation, which allows snakes to calmly bask in the sun. Therefore, the likelihood of meeting a viper at your dacha always exists. And if you suddenly come across it, then follow a couple of simple rules:
- Don't make any sudden movements. Vipers are not aggressive unless touched or threatened. Move calmly to the other side, and the snake will surely crawl away and hide.
- Always look at your step when walking around the site. After all, if you accidentally step on a viper or simply scare it, it may well attack.
