Growing petunias from seeds is possible in an amateur environment, although it requires some care. Remember these important secrets of planting petunias:
- The soil must be prepared in advance to prevent the occurrence of infections and fungal diseases.
- The soil should be fertile, high in humus, slightly acidic.
- Before planting, the seeds are mixed with sand, and then sown in special containers. Petunia is planted in early spring, from February to March, in trays filled with a mixture of peat, sand and compost leaves.
- Containers should be placed in a warm room. The optimum temperature for seed germination is + 18... + 25 ° С. Plants are watered regularly to keep the soil from drying out.
- The composition of the potting soil in which the plants are sown is also important. The best option is a nutritious and loose soil, consisting of humus, leaf or herbal fertilizer, peat and sand. The plant does not tolerate an alkaline and highly acidic environment, therefore, it is recommended to add a little lime to too acidic soil.
- The ground must be moistened, then sprinkled with petunia seeds on the surface. They should be carefully sprinkled with water from a spray bottle and lightly sprinkled with a layer of soil (no more than 1-2 mm). The grains are lightly pressed to the ground and covered with a covering material. For this, you can use glass, polyethylene or paper.
Peat tablets
There is an easier, but expensive way to get plants for seedlings - using peat tablets. To do this, pour peat tablets with warm water and wait until the mixture swells and cools. For novice gardeners, this method of growing flower cuttings is the most preferred.
