Do's and don'ts to plant after garlic

It is impossible to plant plants from the same family on the same garden bed, this is the unshakable rule of all gardeners. During their life, they extract the same set of nutrients from the soil, so for the next similar crop there will be a lack of such necessary microelements. And besides, their diseases are the same and will be transmitted through the soil. So what is not advised to plant after garlic:

  • of course the garlic itself;
  • onion;
  • all varieties of cabbage;
  • bulbous flowers;
  • beets;
  • nightshade crops.

Well, who likes a predecessor like garlic:

  • Strawberry;
  • radish and daikon;
  • black or margelan radish;
  • cucumbers;
  • different fast-growing greens;
  • and of course the siderates.

Strawberry

Garden strawberries or strawberries will love such a precursor as garlic. During its growth, it kills and scares away all diseases and pests that strawberries are afraid of. Therefore, the seedlings take root very well and do not get sick. The best time to plant it is the end of August and the beginning of September. For good fertilization of the soil in front of the strawberries, you can plant a phacelia.

Roots

For root crops, lovers of short daylight hours, a bed after garlic will be a fairly good place:

  • We are used to growing radishes in spring, at the beginning of summer, but he will also really like the end of the summer season. It will be even tastier and juicier.
  • A daikon planted in the fall will never go to the arrow. And daylight hours in the amount of 12-14 hours are ideal for him for good growth.
  • Green, or Margelan, radish and black radish of late varieties are specially planted during this period to improve the quality of winter storage.

Cucumbers

For the southern regions, where summer does not end with a calendar period, you can plant cucumbers with an early ripening period. Garlic has a beneficial effect on the soil for the subsequent cultivation of this crop. Cucumbers will be less susceptible to a variety of diseases.

Greens

Everyone loves summer for delicious and fortified greens on the table. Almost every green crop, such as dill, lettuce, cilantro, parsley, spinach, will grow after garlic. In addition, at this time, most of the pests that infect these plants are already safe. The only advice is to water them more often and cover them from the scorching sun with a non-woven covering material.

Siderata

If you decide to improve the condition of the soil and get rid of pests in it, then siderates are the best helpers in this, these are:

  • mustard - will improve the condition of the soil and relieve it of the bear and wireworm;
  • oats - will enrich the land with potassium;
  • peas - will give nitrogen to the soil, and under favorable conditions, will delight you with delicious pods;
  • Phacelia - enriches the soil with microelements and is an excellent honey plant.

Planting siderata is easy enough. You should scatter seeds on the watered soil and sprinkle them with a small layer of earth. After the plants have reached a height of about 20 cm, we dig the garden bed together with green spaces.

Have a good harvest!
