Pepper needs careful care, because a good harvest can only be obtained from healthy plants, protected from diseases, watered and fed in time. The quality of the crop can be significantly worsened by pests of pepper: a variety of worms, insects and arachnids can completely destroy plants. Every summer resident should be able to recognize parasites and signs of damage to plants in order to more effectively use means to combat them.

Pest butterflies

Whiteflies do a lot of damage to pepper. It is difficult to find a colony of butterflies in time, since they are located on the inside of the leaf plate. The small size of insects (3-4 mm) allows them to remain invisible. Over time, a whitish bloom appears under the leaves, in which a parasitic fungus is actively developing, leading to their yellowing, blackening and death.

It is necessary to regularly inspect the parts of the plants protected from light. After shaking the affected bush, white insects can be seen. With a small amount, it is recommended to wash off the butterflies and larvae with a stream of water and spray the bushes with a solution of laundry soap and garlic infusion. Ladybugs effectively destroy the whitefly, but more often you have to fight parasites with strong insecticides. In advanced cases, they settle on all plants of the site.

A single treatment with “Fufanon” or other means can help with whitefly:

  • "Confidor".
  • "Mospilan".
  • "Verticillin".

Another parasite butterfly is the scoop. Moth-like gray-brown insects are fertile. Their caterpillars feed on shoots, leaves, ovaries, fruits. It is possible to see a fluttering butterfly in the morning or in the evening, and the insect can also be scared away when watering.

To combat scoops, the beds with pepper must be regularly cleaned of weeds, which serve as a food source for the imago of these butterflies. You can set traps in plastic containers filled with jam. Digging in autumn helps rid the soil of wintering scoops.

Chemical insecticides against it:

  • "Zolon".
  • Volaton.
  • "Arrivo".
  • "Sherpa".

Other parasites of pepper

In addition to butterflies, aphids can also damage vegetable crops. External signs of damage:

  • curling foliage;
  • wilting of shoots;
  • sticky discharge on the stems;
  • blackening of the stems (development of the fungus);
  • activity of ants.

Potent drugs ("Corado", "Karbofos", etc.) are able to clean the beds of aphids and ants, but they should be used with extreme caution. It is recommended to deal with parasites in a more sustainable way:

  • spraying the bushes with garlic infusion or soapy water with ash and tobacco dust;
  • ruining the anthill;
  • device of honey and ground borax baits for ants.

Thrips not only suck sap from plants, but also transmit infections. Translucent insects no more than 1.5 mm in size resemble grasshoppers and also jump from bush to bush. After exposure to pests, a rash of light spots or streaks appears on the leaves. Over time, the green mass of the pepper crumbles. In the fight against thrips, the same methods are used as against butterflies. Spraying with marigold infusion helps to cope with them.

If subtle red and orange dots appeared on the pepper, the plant was attacked by a spider mite. A cobweb appears on the back of the leaf plate, then it braids the entire bush. The tick is destroyed by spraying the plants with a solution of kerosene:

  • 10 liters of water;
  • 40 g of laundry soap;
  • ½ hour l. kerosene.

You can use tobacco infusion.

Strong anti-pest drugs:

  • "Anti-tick".
  • "Karbofos".
  • "Aldicarb".
  • "Temik".

Slugs and snails can harm peppers. Round holes and nibbled edges of seedling leaves, bitten stems testify to the invasion of shellfish. In this case, you can fill up the aisles with shells, needles or ash. You can use drugs:

  • "Thunderstorm".
  • "Slime Eater".
  • "Predator".

It is recommended to fill up the aisles with quicklime after watering or rain.
