Assessment of useful qualities
Peelings of potatoes are a suitable form of fertilization, because immediately after application to the soil, microorganisms in the soil begin to process them. At the same time, useful components remain in the ground, at the same time, conditions for the development of plants are provided, since the soil is enriched with microelements, and at the same time it becomes looser. Useful components from the soil penetrate into plant tissues, they are distributed along with moisture.
The nutrients are contained in the skins and the thin layer of potatoes that remain when peeled. Among them stand out:
- vitamin C;
- glucose;
- starch;
- fluorine;
- phosphorus;
- potassium;
- magnesium;
- organic acids.
Benefits of using potato peelings as fertilizer:
- absence of harmful components;
- help in pest control - potato peelings create unacceptable conditions for the development of parasites;
- low cost - such raw materials are always freely available, they can be prepared at home;
- thanks to the ability of this fertilizer to loosen the soil (it indirectly affects this process), the intensity of the saturation of the earth with oxygen increases;
- a large number of useful substances, and in terms of composition, potato peelings are superior to certain types of fertilizers;
- There is no risk of burns on plant tissues when such raw materials are introduced into the soil, while synthetic analogs can spoil plantings if used incorrectly.
Potato peelings have disadvantages, for example, they do not always provide a positive effect. They need to be used to improve the properties of some plants: root crops, melons, cabbage of various types, berry and fruit trees, shrubs, flowers.
Fertilizer preparation methods
For storage of raw materials for the preparation of fertilizers, methods such as freezing and drying are chosen. The rest of the options are not suitable, since this will destroy some of the nutritional components. Procured cleaned from dirt, dried cleanings. They should not be left in direct sunlight. If a drying method is chosen, it is necessary to spread the raw material in an even layer. The duration of the process will be 10-12 days, it can be accelerated using the oven (maximum temperature + 100 ° C), the duration of drying in it is up to 4 hours.
For storage, choose a pantry (if the cleanings are dried in an oven) or a shed, a garage, where the raw materials will be exposed to low temperatures, which will avoid the development of infection.
Fertilizer preparation options:
- Flour. Prepared raw materials are crushed using a meat grinder, blender. It is not recommended to store such raw materials for a long time; it is scattered under the plants on the ground. You can make a potato peel solution by mixing the powder with water.
- Gruel. First, the raw material must be disinfected: it is poured with boiling water in a large container. The water is not drained, potato peelings are left in it to swell. After 1 week, pieces that are not softened are crushed. The gruel is brought under the roots.
- Infusion. Fresh raw materials are used, but frozen is also suitable. Potato peelings are poured with boiling water. After 1 day, it is permissible to use a liquid without sediment to fertilize plants.
The frequency of processing is 1 time every 14 days. This rule applies to infusion, the gruel should be applied 1 time every 4 weeks.
