How autumn nutrition affects culture

After summer fruiting, the black currant bushes weaken. And they need extra food. It allows:

  • increase immunity to pests and major diseases;
  • strengthen the root system;
  • effectively set buds for the next harvest;
  • shorten the growing season;
  • to increase productivity and consumer characteristics.
Fall dressing plays a key role in shaping the future harvest. Fertilizers applied in autumn make the soil more nutritious.

And when the snow begins to melt in spring, these nutrients will be gradually absorbed by the root system. As a result, the bush will become stronger, more viable and give a rich harvest.

When to fertilize

Feeding currants is a long-term job. And it is carried out in situations:

  • when the bush was planted 3-4 years ago. During this time, the culture has extracted all the nutrients from the soil. Provided that during these years no additional fertilizers were applied;
  • when the bush bears fruit very actively. At this time, he needs strength that he can draw from feeding.

Top dressing schedule

In central Russia, the first top dressing should be carried out in September, when the entire crop is harvested. The second procedure is in November. Recommended fertilizers - rotted vegetation, compost. This type of fertilizer begins to work only after 3 months - in the spring. Then the bushes will quickly move away from hibernation and recover.

In northern latitudes, currant feeding is done earlier - at the end of August. In the southern regions - in early October. There, due to the prolonged heat, black currant bears fruit throughout September.

The frequency of fertilization is also affected by the composition of the soil. So, if it is fertile, black earth - feeding is carried out every 3 years. On loamy - once every 2-3 years, on sandy loam - annually.

Types of effective feeding

In order not to destroy the bushes with the wrong fertilizers, you need to know the features of each species. There are also rules to follow. Namely:

  • before fertilizing the bush, it should be watered abundantly (10-20 liters per 1 bush);
  • dig a groove around the bush 20-30 cm deep and pour fertilizer into it. Then cover with soil and mulch with peat. It is this approach that ensures the rapid delivery of nutrients from the soil to the roots.

Mineral dressing

You can choose a potassium-phosphorus mixture in granules. Two tbsp. l. 10 liters of water with the addition of 1 tbsp. l. wood ash - and healthy food for currants is ready. Pour 2 liters of working solution under young bushes, 5 liters under old ones.

Organic fertilizers

It is useful to use organics in combination with mineral substrates. First, it is necessary to add humus to the soil, and then spill it with a superphosphate solution. Proportions: 2 tbsp. l. mixture for 10 liters of water.

For a plentiful harvest of black currant, it is necessary to feed it regularly and competently. Only in this case will the culture always please its owner.
