Fashion is a very strange and dynamic concept. Sometimes it changes so rapidly that most people do not even have time to follow, if not even notice any changes in it. At the same time, there are things that do not last a year or even ten years. Medieval pointed shoes can be considered one of the most interesting examples in the history of fashion.

Beak shoes were popular not only in medieval Europe. They appeared in the East and were brought to the Old World by the crusaders, after campaigns in the Holy Land in the XII-XIII centuries. The widespread name "pullena" appeared even later and came from France after the wife of the English king Richard II, Anna, was paid an official visit by a delegation of the Polish nobility. In French, boots were called "poulaine", which comes from "souliers a la poulaine" - Polish fashion shoes.

In Europe, pulleins gained wide popularity largely because the shoes were incredibly narrow and had not very beautiful toes. Then the shoemakers adopted the Eastern experience and began to make shoes with long fancy noses. Moreover, it was believed that the longer the nose of the boot, the richer and more noble its owner. Later, King Edward IV of England even passed laws that

will regulate the length of the bullet noses in accordance with the social status of the person. The richer you are, the longer your noses.

Some historians put forward versions that the length of the bullet, the representatives of the stronger sex hinted to the ladies about their male potential in bed.

Pulleins were made from a variety of materials. The most luxurious shoes (for the nobility) were made of velvet. Simpler shoes were made of pigskin. Of course, walking with such long noses was not very comfortable. Therefore, they began to insert a whalebone into the nose of the bullet or stuff them with other organic material so that the sock was wrapped. Some also simply tied their noses with a string or chain.

The fashion for pulleins came to the knightly estate, to military affairs. In the 15th century, armor of the Milanese and Gothic type was equipped with sabotins - metal bullets. Such long metal socks had no functional meaning, just a tribute to the then current fashion. In fact, the sabotins were ordinary knightly boots. A fancy sock was attached over the boot after the knight climbed on the horse and was removed by his servants before he climbed to the ground.
However, by the end of the 15th century, pulleins were completely out of fashion. In Italy, they were abandoned even earlier, almost a century.
