At all times, the knife was one of the most important tools in human life and a faithful friend of the warrior and soldier. The use of advanced materials and the latest design solutions has brought the production of knives in the 20th century to an unprecedented level. It is easy to guess that all the most successful was created primarily for the army.
1. Fairbain-Sykes
The dagger of the British special forces, which was actively used in the middle of the last century. Stylet 185 mm long. The narrow combat knife was intended primarily for stabbing. The weapon easily penetrated the enemy's body and was easily removed from it, leaving a deep, profusely bleeding cut. The main disadvantage of the Fairbain-Sykes was that the knife was almost impossible to use as a tool.
2. Finnish puukko
An economic combat knife, which was in service with the Finnish army in the first half and middle of the 20th century. The distinctive black puukko was that this knife was easily tossed about. During the Soviet-Finnish war, experienced soldiers and officers instructed the "young" to sharply tilt their heads forward with a helmet if a Finnish soldier suddenly makes a sharp wave of his hand. A helmet placed in this way guaranteed to save from a flying knife in the head.
3. NR-40
Simple and very effective "Scout Knife" from 1940, was created by Soviet designers taking into account the experience of the "Winter War". Such tools of everyday life and war were received only by reconnaissance and assault units of the Red Army. Despite the apparent simplicity, the knife has proven itself in a variety of situations. Suffice it to say that copies of the HP-40 are being made to this day, albeit using modern materials.
Note: later in the USSR a large series of various "Scout Knives" with different indices was released.
4. "Puma"
The Puma knife was created by German designers as a universal cutting tool especially for Luftwaffe pilots. The weapon was very much like the trench knives of the First World War. Subsequently, a foldable version of the Puma also appeared, which could be used to cut the parachute lines.
5. KA-BAR Mk II
American-made universal combat knife. The shape and characteristics of this knife turned out to be so successful that you can still find it today. The Mk II blade was made in the traditional US Bowie shape. During World War II, such knives were received mainly by employees of the Marine Corps.

6. M7 Bayonet
American bayonet-knife, created in 1967. It is poorly suited for the role of a soldier's household tool, but is almost an ideal piercing weapon. The sevenfold dagger with one and a half sharpening had a length of 170 mm. In the United States, the knife turned out to be no less popular than the previously mentioned Mk II.
7. Ontario M9
American bayonet knife created in 1984 and gained immense popularity in the market not as a weapon, but as a universal soldier's tool. The simple and well thought-out shape, together with the most modern (at that time) materials in the construction, brought the Ontario M9 truly worldwide fame. These knives have been exported to dozens of countries.
