Many motorists have probably noticed that on some side view mirrors (in fact, not only on them) you can see a strange vertical stripe dividing the entire reflective surface into two parts. Most often, such stripes come across on the mirrors of imported cars. These lines were most popular with designers in the 1990s. Today they are made less and less, but so far this element has not turned into a "rarity". Why is it needed?
Many motorists believe they know the answer to this question. The vast majority, having seen the described side-view mirror, without hesitation, will once again declare that this strip is in fact a heating element so that the mirror does not freeze in winter. This is an interesting, but still fundamentally wrong assumption.

It's actually just a dividing strip that sits between the two mirrors. If you look closely at the reflection, it becomes clear that we have more than one mirror in front of us. This is easy to understand by noticing the distortion of the picture between the two parts of the reflective element. A small mirror is usually distorted to show a smaller image, but with an increased viewing angle. This feature is very useful for drivers, especially when making maneuvers such as when changing lanes. Thanks to two mirrors, the motorist has the opportunity to inspect a much larger section of the road.
