Why does a Kalashnikov assault rifle need cartridges with white bullets, and what bullets of different colors mean?

If you take an interest not only in the weapon, but also in what it is loaded with, already in a first approximation it will be possible to notice that the tips of the bullets are painted for some reason in different colors. It is quite obvious that this is done for a reason. At the same time, ammunition with a completely white warhead stands out stronger than others. So, let's take a closer look at the cartridges and figure out what all these colors mean using the example of AK-74 ammunition.

Let's start directly with small arms ammunition, which has a solid white bullet. Such ammunition for the AKS-74 has the state index 7X3M. There is nothing secret about them. In fact, these are just blank cartridges. It is also worth emphasizing that, contrary to the many stereotypes created by Hollywood, blank cartridges with a plastic white bullet are by no means safe. When fired at close range, they can not only injure a person, but even kill him.

There are many more different ammunition markings. Most often, the markings are recognized by the color of the bullet nose. For example, incendiary ammunition has a red tip. Tracer cartridges are marked in green. If yellow paint is applied to the spout, then it is most likely a weighted bullet.

If the ammunition is painted black, then it is either armor-piercing, or all also weighted. There is also a huge number of combined markings consisting of two or more colors. As a rule, such designations are applied to very rare and highly specialized cartridges. So, for example, a bullet with a reduced speed is painted black and green. Armor-piercing incendiary ammunition is painted black and red. If the bullet is red and purple, then it is an armor-piercing incendiary-tracer ammunition.

All of the above is Soviet ammunition marking. It goes without saying that it is far from complete. There are dozens of special markings. In addition, the NATO countries use separate markings of their own invention. In most cases, American bullet colors do not coincide with domestic ones in meaning.
