In the late 1980s, new creative programs began to appear on Russian television. Many families then watched the programs of the VID TV company for whole evenings, the screensaver of which frightened all young children for more than one decade. Surely, even today, many recall with a shudder that mysterious head crawling out of the darkness.
The VID TV company has released several of its own projects on the blue screen. Accordingly, the studio from the very beginning wanted to combine them so that the viewer immediately understood who was working on the presented content. The simplest, most obvious, and at the same time effective way to do this is to create a suitable intro that will be shown before each episode of the television show.
The splash screen was invented by the wife of Vladislav Nikolayevich Listyev (the first general director of the ORT TV channel) Albina Nazimova, who worked as a restorer of the Museum of the East. It was she who suggested using the mask of the Chinese philosopher Guo Xiang, who lived in China in the 3-4th century AD, to create the screensaver. At the same time, the museum's management banned the use of the actual image of the mask. For this reason, the creative team of the studio decided to rework it.

Interesting fact: Guo Xiang's mask is considered a symbol of prosperity, and a frog sitting on his head is a symbol of wealth.
First of all, his unusually large ears disappeared from Guo Xiang's mask. The creative team decided that releasing an “absurd Cheburashka” as a splash screen would not be the best solution. The mimicry of the image was also changed. In the original, Guo Xiang smiles, while in the "VIEW" screensaver, his expression is extremely gloomy and even unpleasant. Ironically, after all the transformations, VIDovsky Xiang became similar to Boris Yeltsin.

In the original splash screen, the appearance of the mask was accompanied by a chilling fanfare sound. Later, they were also supplemented by Ratskevich's music, as well as terrible chirping, which resembles the sound of an instrument.
