Cars with automatic transmissions are gaining more and more market share. This is not surprising, because the automatic transmission is much simpler and more convenient to operate than the "mechanics". In addition, now this type of transmission is available even for budget cars. But despite all the simplicity and convenience, you also need to know how to use the "automatic", otherwise it can disappoint with its frequent breakdowns, and automatic transmission repair costs a lot of money. How to properly operate a car with automatic transmission - read on.
1. No slip
Any automatic transmission doesn't like slipping.
Note: We say "any" because they come in several types. And to be more precise - three: a classic one with a torque converter, a variator and a robotic one (more and more often with two clutches).
Of course, it will not work at all not to slip during operation, but this should not be abused.
2. Do not tow
One of the most important rules for operating a car with an "automatic". It is advisable to tow such machines either with partial loading of the driving wheels, or transported on a tow truck. Towing in the usual sense of the word is permissible only at speeds up to 30 km / h and over short distances. The fact is that on cars with an automatic machine during towing, the box will be driven by the wheels, but at the same time lubrication will not flow to its mechanisms, which can negatively affect the resource, or even lead to breakdown altogether.
3. Switch to reverse
Switch to reverse mode only after a complete stop. This is often neglected by drivers and reverse gear even before the car comes to a complete stop. The automatic transmission has protection against accidental engagement of reverse gear, but it does not work at parking speeds, and such manipulation will eventually lead to automatic transmission breakdowns. Therefore, after moving forward, you need to completely stop, wait a second or two and only then turn on reverse. Haste in this matter is unlikely to significantly reduce the time, but it can seriously increase the resource of the box mechanism.
4. Do not abuse "neutral"
Do not move the automatic transmission selector to the "N" position at each stop. This is a service mode, and its frequent activation negatively affects the state of the box.
5. Oil change
In order for the machine to serve faithfully, it is necessary to regularly change the oil in it. Experts recommend replacing it every 50 - 70 thousand kilometers, but if the car is operated mainly in urban conditions, the replacement interval should be reduced to 35 - 40 km.
6. Parking uphill
Leaving the car on a slope, you must remember to tighten the handbrake to reduce the load on the automatic transmission.

7. Warming up in winter
During severe frost, the oil thickens and is unable to provide sufficient lubrication for all parts and mechanisms of the gearbox, which leads to severe wear. Therefore, in winter, before you start driving, you must first warm up the automatic transmission. To do this, just put the selector "machine" in the "D" mode, press the brake and stand like this for one and a half to two minutes.
