5 Soviet parenting principles that ruin children's lives

People who were born and matured in the Soviet Union usually say: "Well, we grew up, and it seems like nothing like that." But many of the methods of education, pedagogical methods that were used in those days, today simply cannot be applied.

1. A child must be brought up so that a person grows out of him

One of the postulates of the USSR, as well as a tradition, was to raise a “human” from a child. This meant the lack of manifestation on his part of independence up to a certain age. In the modern world, this principle does not correspond to the foundations and understanding of the formation of society.

If such methods are used in relation to the present child, he will grow up completely unadapted for later adult life. In addition, he will have a grudge against his parents for his childhood, in which he was taught all the time, regardless of his desires or opinions. Psychologists say that even babies are already individuals, moreover, from birth. Disrespect for his opinion, views will lead to the fact that he will become dependent on someone else's opinion in an adult, independent life. And this will not lead to anything good.

2. You need to study only for "excellent"

Many Soviet people remember how their parents scolded them not only for the "two" brought from school, but also for higher grades - "three". And what is most interesting is the shame experienced by the parents for their child, if he did not study well. In our time, the attitude towards estimates is somewhat different. We understand that a person cannot be talented in everything, just like successful. But each child has their own unique abilities. The main thing is to see and develop them.

In order to discover talents in children as early as possible, various techniques and methods are used today. And in practice, it has been proven that high school grades are not a guarantee of a person's well-being and happiness in his adult life.

3. Unquestioning obedience to elders

In the USSR, children were taught that they must respect all adults and unconditionally follow their orders and decrees. Nobody asked the child's opinion, as it was, to put it mildly, not held in high esteem. It is useful to learn to treat the elderly with respect also to modern children. But the logic like "I'm a fool - you are the boss" does not fit into our world and its perception. All people make mistakes, regardless of their age, status and position. Parents who admit they were wrong and openly talk about it to their child will help him become a strong, independent and successful person.

4. The strap and the cuff are the main parenting tools

During the Soviet era, punishment with a "belt" for the smallest offense was the norm. Then the adults did not even think that a criminal case could be instituted for this, or, at least, passers-by would start making comments. The foundation of upbringing was not respect, but fear.

Today we understand that such methods cannot have good consequences. Each of those who were beaten in childhood received psychological, often too serious, trauma for life. In the future, he may experience depressive states or bouts of aggression, a tendency to suicide. The fact is proven by many studies.

5. Intimacy is indecent and ashamed

In the USSR, none of the adults at home talked about sex education with their children. In adolescence, a child could not come with a question of interest to his parents and talk openly with them. The topics of sexually transmitted infections and contraception were not raised at all. Lack of knowledge caused uncertainty and fear, which are almost impossible to eliminate on your own. Today, psychologists have proven that this approach is wrong, and early sex education is necessary for modern children.
