In order to refine an apartment or a country house, you need to spend a lot of time and a lot of money, but, if you know some tricks, you can save at least money, because the labor intensity is several times will increase. This was proved by a young man who decided to build a house from scratch, and, of course, completely ennoble it on his own. He kindly shares all the processes with his subscribers (and not only) on the YouTube channel. When it came to finishing the hallway, which is quite large in area, he decided to conduct an experiment that was supposed to significantly reduce the material costs for finishing this room.

The young man spied on the technique of creating an imitation of a brick wall on the Internet, the only thing that did not take risks, using plaster or putty as the main material for "making brick ". The listed building mixtures are not very resistant to moisture and temperature changes, so it is better to use them in finishing the interior of an apartment than to create decor in suburban facilities. As a rule, in winter, the owners do not live in them and even appear very rarely, which means that changes in temperature and dampness cannot be avoided. For this reason, the experimenter chose a tile adhesive that has more stable characteristics in this regard.

Helpful information: Tile adhesive is a dry building mixture used for the installation of ceramic tiles, porcelain stoneware, heavy decorative elements made of plaster or other materials, natural and artificial stone, etc. Tile adhesive consists of cement-sand binders with the addition of various components of chemical origin.

Before starting the creative and rather painstaking work, you need to prepare the wall. If this is an old building, then the entire surface should be freed from the top coating, the existing damage should be putty, and after drying, the entire surface should be opened with a primer. If the house / apartment has just been built, then the plastered walls only need to be primed.

In order to make the "bricks" even, you need to use a level when marking. | Photo: youtube.com/ © Tvoydom.

After the primer has dried, you can start marking the wall. This is a very important and meticulous process that needs to be done as correctly and accurately as possible. First, you need to draw horizontal and vertical stripes with a pencil at the same distance, which you need to think over and calculate so that the "bricks" at the edges (across the row) are placed intact. As a rule, a level is used for these purposes (a laser is better suited).

Use masking tape to make the mesh of the desired size. | Photo: youtube.com/ © Tvoydom.

After that, you can start gluing the masking tape. Its width depends on how you decided to make the seam between the "bricks" you create. It is more expedient to make a seam of 1 cm, but you will not find such a width of masking tape, so you will have to cut the one that is available. First, horizontal lines are glued (this is very important!), Leaving at the end of each row "tails" of adhesive tape 5-7 cm, which will greatly facilitate the process of removing them in the future. After that, we glue the vertical stripes, while the ends of the tape must be securely fastened to the horizontal strips (!).

The layer of tile adhesive applied to the wall should not exceed 0.5 cm. | Photo: youtube.com/ © Tvoydom.

When the entire wall area is filled with masking tape mesh, tile adhesive can be kneaded and applied to the wall with a spatula. The master advises to apply a layer of solution no thicker than 0.5 cm, otherwise, when removing the tape, very torn and sharp edges will be obtained.

Important! If you are an amateur in construction and finishing work, then you should not apply the solution immediately to the entire wall. Better to start with 2-3 "squares", if you have time to make bricks before the glue base solidifies, then the area can be increased.

Use a plastic bag to make the surface of the tile adhesive textured. | Photo: youtube.com/ © Tvoydom.

After applying tile adhesive to a small area of the wall, you can make a textured surface to give your "brick" a more natural and attractive look. For these purposes, the young man used a plastic bag rolled into a ball, which he periodically moistened in water. Although you can use a washcloth and a loose rag or just pat with a wet palm (such manipulations are done with rubber gloves!).

Remove the strips of masking tape very carefully until the material is dry. | Photo: youtube.com/ © Tvoydom.

When the wall has acquired the desired texture, you can start removing the horizontal strips of masking tape, and then the vertical ones. This process is very responsible, so you need to be extremely careful and accurate, especially watching the angle at which you remove the adhesive tape.

You can smooth sharp and very torn edges with a brush or a foam sponge soaked in water. | Photo: youtube.com/ © tvoyom.

After 1.5-2 hours, when the glue has set a little, you should walk with a wet brush to smooth out sharp edges. You can wait a little longer, but then smoothing will have to be done with a spatula or sandpaper.

On the finished wall, the young man applied 3 different paint colors and drew the seams. | Photo: youtube.com/ © Tvoydom.

In this example, the young man decided to make a three-color wall with a white seam, which required additional time and financial costs. But, be that as it may, the result of his work was amazing and delighted all household members, and for Internet users it became the very "magic pendel" that inspired them to start renovating their homes.

After summing up the results of the interesting and creative work to create a special interior in the hallway, the enthusiast calculated that a little less than $ 1,000 was spent on all the transformations. rub. and 4 days of hard and painstaking work.

For those who are planning to make repairs in the toilet and want to save money,
the following example will come in handy, because the quirky hostess spent only 460 rubles. and the remnants of building materials from previous renovations to put this area in order.
