Who among us does not know what a standard multi-storey socket looks like? Faceless construction was carried out not only throughout the entire territory of the Land of Soviets, but many European states can "boast" of such architecture. Despite the standard shapes and designs, in some regions you can observe very unusual specimens that cause confusion and a lot of speculation. For example, in Georgia you can see high-rise buildings, between which there are real air bridges at the level of 1-14 floors.

Walking through the micro-districts of the city of Tbilisi (Georgia), where at one time there was a massive development of high-rise panel houses, one can observe an unusual picture, as for such an architectural style. Starting from the 1st and ending with the 14th floor, between the panel multi-storey buildings (in the common people - panels) of the residential complex, the most real aerial bridges, like those that can be seen in some cities in China, the USA or high in the mountains between the towers of ancient palaces.

An extraordinary detail in the design of a standard Soviet panel-high-rise buildings was invented by Georgian architects Otar Kalandarshvili and Gizo Potskhishvili in 1976, who created an experimental residential complex. In such an elegant and unusual way, the authors of the project tried to both beat the steep slope and simplify the life of people in one of the most difficult areas of the city - the Nutsubidze plateau.

Interesting fact: The Georgian capital Tbilisi is located in a very picturesque place, but not at all suitable for mass construction. Sheer cliffs along a narrow valley significantly limited the development of the city, so they tried to inhabit every existing plateau. Particularly impressive is the Nutsubidze area, located on the terraces of the plateau of the same name. This part of the capital is notable for its inaccessibility due to the steep serpentines that are trying to overcome vehicles (mostly personal), in bad weather public transport does not always cope with such slopes.

True, the bridges and crossings themselves are already in a completely deplorable state. | Photo: gramho.com/ © dev1l_6 monts ago.

For this reason, unusual bridges were conceived, which are designed to help people quickly and without heavy physical exertion climb to the upper level of the microdistrict, bypassing steep slopes. In multi-storey buildings connected by bridges, 2 elevator structures have been created. One elevator car operates as usual, making it possible to move on all residential floors, and the second - delivers to the floor where the exit to the metal air bridge is located, connected to the next home.

Given the complexity of the terrain and the steep ascent / descent, bridges from house to house are located at different levels. From the upper multi-storey building of the unique complex, the bridge leaves from the 1st floor, in the area of the middle house it already reaches the 8th, and the last building can only be reached on the 14th floor. But this is not all the strangeness and realities of Georgian life.

If in the good old days everyone could enjoy such benefits without restrictions, then with the advent of independence everything changed. Now the elevator, with the help of which you can get to the saving bridge in a matter of seconds, can only be used by those who paid for the "trip".

To use such an original lift, you need to pay 20 tetri, for these purposes in the cabin installed coin acceptors in the form of a regular mailbox with several holes for coins of different face value. The operator is vigilantly watching the simple structures of collecting money, so that a hare will not be able to pass. And most importantly, those who decide to use the simplified way always need to have 10 or 20 tetri coins, otherwise no one gives change.

Locals know that the cost is indicated only in one direction, and those who plan to go to these places for the first time need to know the translation of the announcement that meets everyone who enters: "Attention! The elevator ride is chargeable. The ascent of one passenger is 20 tetri, the descent is also 20. Children under 8 years old - free. Children under 6 years old are not allowed unaccompanied. Moving cargo over 20 kg - 10 tetri ".

Help from the Novate editors. Ru: Tetri is a bargaining chip of 1/100 of the Georgian national currency, the lari. In our understanding, this is a penny. 20 tetri at the rate is about 4.8 rubles.

The deplorable state of passages, platforms and the elevator itself depress only tourists - the rest no longer notice. | Photo: realt.onliner.by.

Despite the fact that these buildings are still a Soviet legacy, residents of micro-districts, whose houses are located on the slopes, still use air crossings. In fact, this is the only acceptable way to get to civilization, because the entire infrastructure of the city is located at the upper level, and it is the bridges that reduce the travel time several times. As a rule, it takes no more than 5 minutes to go up by an elevator and the transition. If someone wants to walk the distance from the lowest point to the upper level, then extreme sportsmen rarely fit into 20-30 minutes, and this is provided that a young healthy person will climb.

Despite the fact that half a century has passed, modern city planners have not come up with anything else. | Photo: gramho.com/ © northern.friend 9 monts ago.

The legacy of Soviet architecture in Tbilisi is used not only for its intended purpose, if it is difficult to redesign a residential building, then an abandoned garment factory can be without problems. This is what the team of enthusiasts did, turning the Soviet stronghold of light industry into a modern multifunctional complex, combining a hostel, art studios, coworking areas, leisure halls, cafes and bars.
