Fashion is capricious and fickle. This is clearly demonstrated by the rapid changes not only in cuts and styles of clothing, but also in gastronomic preferences. Every day, obtrusive advertising demonstrates hundreds of products and dishes, which are supposedly fashionable to use. A good angle and a beautiful picture have a strong impact, and people, without noticing it, fall for the bait of marketers. Novate.ru talks about several dishes and products that are very useful and popular, but absolutely inedible.

1. Avocado

Despite the high calorie content of the product, adherents of proper nutrition simply idolize avocado and consider it an essential part of the diet of every person. The similar popularity of the product, which tastes like petroleum jelly, is due to the presence of healthy fats, vitamins (K, C, E, B5, B6) and minerals (copper, iron, zinc, manganese, phosphorus, magnesium). Thanks to such a rich composition, regular consumption of avocados guarantees increased immunity, reduced stress and getting rid of wrinkles.

However, even a huge number of positive properties do not make the product tasty. On their pages on social networks, people write that the avocado resembles a nasty herb-flavored porridge. Many also do not understand how a photo of a “delicacy” can be posted on Instagram and signed “The most delicious food in the world”.

2. Tofu

If avocado is high in calories, then tofu, on the contrary, has practically no calories. However, the soybean product is very nutritious and can easily replace a full meal. Due to the absence of a characteristic taste and smell (let's be honest - tofu is absolutely tasteless), it can be universally used in cooking and added to almost any dish. Another plus of tofu is its rich composition, which includes iron, calcium, fiber. There are many tofu fans among vegetarians and healthy eating habits. However, ordinary people prefer to stay away from it, as they believe that the product is similar to thick and completely tasteless cottage cheese. In another version, tofu resembles an undersalted piece of omelet.

3. Caviar

Caviar has always been considered a symbol of luxury and prosperity. It is constantly associated with Russia, and it never stays on store shelves. The reason is not only that people want to show how well off they are by offering guests a sandwich with real (!) Caviar. Firstly, it can be combined with any product, and, secondly, it contains a huge amount of nutritional and useful elements: fatty acids Omega-3, Omega-6, saturated fats, polyunsaturated fats, monounsaturated fats. However, this is not surprising, because each egg is a capsule necessary for the development of a fish embryo.

Despite all the positive aspects, caviar also has many enemies who believe that its taste resembles fish oil or a very salty gel with the smell of fish.

4. Calais

The first mentions of collard greens (another name is kale) appeared in the 4th century BC. However, for many years it was in the shadows, as there were enough fighters in the gastronomic arena. So, in 2020, collard greens are confidently taking the leading position in the list of the most popular superfoods, overtaking chia seeds and berries. The product contains a huge amount of vitamin C (even more than citrus fruits) and iron. This is probably why kale salads and smoothies are on the menus of all restaurants that offer healthy and wholesome food to their guests. However, people who have tried it note that the earthy taste of the product cannot be interrupted by either olive oil or salt. Many people say that stewed it is good, but raw it is disgusting.

5. Seaweed

There is a lot of iodine and minerals in seaweed.

Wild-growing seaweed is ideally combined with many products, from ordinary vegetables (potatoes, carrots) to cheese and eggs. Also, seaweed contains a lot of iodine and minerals. As for calories, there are 49 kcal per 100 grams of the product, so it can be consumed even all day - the body will only thank you. Alas, there is no perfect product that would combine extraordinary taste, benefits and low calorie levels. Seaweed is no exception. “A rare filth. Are there really people in the world who like this rotten product with a moldy smell? ”- writes AlexFrisky on his Twitter. And this is far from the only such comment. But, as they say, there are no comrades for taste and color.

6. Oysters

Previously, oysters were considered the food of fishermen, but during the time of Casanova, people realized that seafood was an ideal snack for alcohol, in particular for white wine and champagne. There is also an opinion that oysters are irreplaceable as aphrodisiacs. An exquisite delicacy is rich in proteins, fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, thanks to which oysters strengthen the immune system, promote weight loss and prevent the development of a number of diseases.

However, even the large number of benefits may not make some people eat this "goo in the sink". They believe the product tastes like salt water and regret the money spent on the overseas delicacy.

7. Celery

Celery has been popular since the 19th century in England. / Photo: More-vsego.net

Doctors consider celery to be a remedy for many diseases. It is prescribed for people with problem skin, high blood pressure, nervous tension. Noteworthy is the fact that the product has become popular not now, when marketers began to actively promote it, but back in the 19th century. In England, celery was very difficult to grow due to the northern climate, so over time it became very expensive and desirable. However, not everyone was happy to buy it, because this vegetable culture tastes like dishwashing detergent. As for the smell, it is also far from ideal - even a fragrant salad dressing does not interrupt it.

8. Peanut paste

Americans are very fond of peanut butter. / Photo: polzavred-edi.ru

In America, peanut butter is considered almost a national dish, and is present in the refrigerator of every family. Just dab a small amount of this treat on toast or a fresh slice of bread and voila, your high-energy snack is ready. In Russia, pasta is just beginning to gain popularity, but it has already achieved considerable results - in particular, it has replaced butter, jam and feta cheese as a nutritious component for sandwiches. Peanut butter is high in fiber and protein, but tastes poor. People who have tried it complain that the product is very dry, thick and sticky, sticks to the palate and has an unpleasant odor. Many people compare pasta with sweet cardboard, which also does not add points in its favor. Still, the Americans and I are very different from each other. Even in matters of gastronomic preferences.

9. Okra

Okra is recommended for gastritis.

Okra is an annual herb and has many names: gombo, okra, ladies' fingers. Doctors recommend including the product in their diet for those people who suffer from gastritis, since okra contains proteins, carotene and ascorbic acid. Due to its rather piquant taste, this half-vegetable-half-flower is consumed both independently in fresh form, and as a component of other dishes. So, you can stew it, make a casserole or stew, serve with meat. But there is one drawback - when the okra is in your mouth, it feels like you are chewing a slug with seeds inside. We are sure that the sensations are unpleasant.
