At one time, the Mosin system rifle turned out to be an extremely successful example of weapons. It was used until the middle of the last century, after which it finally gave way to the Kalashnikov assault rifle. Nevertheless, relatively recently in Russia, a decision was made to return the legendary rifle to service. We will find out how and for what it is planned to use it.
The three-line Mosin rifle of 7.62 mm caliber was created in 1891 by Major General of the Russian army, weapons designer and production organizer - Sergei Ivanovich Mosin. In the same year, the rifle was put into service, and already in 1892 the first samples entered the Russian Imperial Army. The Mosin rifle was produced until 1965. During all this time, over 37 million units of this weapon have been produced. The three-line has taken part in dozens of armed conflicts around the globe.
Despite the fact that this weapon is more than 130 years old, the Mosin rifle can still be found in various hot spots of the planet. This is because the original rifle is not much inferior to modern weapons in terms of design. A year earlier, at the Russian arms exhibition Army-2019, an interesting project for the modernization of the famous three-line was presented.

In particular, the barrel was replaced with a new one in the rifle. In addition, the bed was replaced. Now it is made of modern composite materials. This reduces the weight of the weapon. The replacement of the original handle with a new one with an adjustable butt cross-section is also provided. Another important design change was the appearance of a removable store. In the original rifle, it was stationary.

The first updated Mosin rifles will enter service with Rosgvarliya and the Russian Army in the summer of 2020. What will they be used for? The answer is extremely simple. The updated 130-year-old rifle will be used primarily for educational purposes for the initial training of domestic snipers. Including snipers of motorized rifle platoons.
