7 Soviet tanks that most of our compatriots have never heard of

In the past XX century, the face of war has changed once and for all. For the first time in history, the war became a "war of motors". All countries have developed and produced a huge number of combat vehicles. First of all - a variety of tanks. Russia was no exception when it was the Soviet Union. Even before the war, a huge number of various armored vehicles were created in the country, most of which are not known to everyone today.

One of the first Soviet tanks, the production of which began in 1932 at the Leningrad Agricultural Machinery Plant named after I. Kirov. In the initial project, which was proposed back in 1932, many different changes were made. In particular, at the direct request of the military, the designers installed a larger-caliber 76-mm cannon on the vehicle.

Another early Soviet tank with a 45mm gun. The car turned out to be quite whimsical and needed increased personal care. The tank was light, with a classic layout. This has had a positive effect on repair capabilities and speed of maintenance. Subsequently, the decision was made to use the T-26 in most Soviet tanks.

Tanks BT-2 and BT-5 appeared in the 1930s. The latter was put into mass production in 1938. The vehicles were in service with the Red Army for quite a long time. First of all, not because of some high performance, but because of the incredible reliability. Both at the test site and in real conditions in the field, the BT-5 showed itself mainly from the best side.

Soviet amphibious tank, created before the Second World War. The vehicle was switched to amphibious mode by turning a special lever. The tank had no cannon; the turret only had a 7.62 mm machine gun. On land, the T-37 accelerated to 30 km / h. On water, the speed could reach 4 km / h.

5. T-35

The famous multi-turret heavy tank of the Soviet Union. The first model was released in 1931. The tank took part in the Finnish War. The car weighed almost 42 tons! The tank's crew was already 10 people. Due to low reliability and dubious characteristics in the army, it did not take root. As a result, the car was removed from service.

6. T-50

This is not a T-34 at all, but a T-50 tank. It appeared back in 1938. Subsequently, the legendary "thirty-four" will be created on its basis. A number of "new type" tanks were produced before the start of the war. However, later the Soviet industry refused to release and began to make a more perfect model.

This vehicle is the last light tank in the Soviet Union. It was released in 1942. After that moment, only medium and heavy tanks were made in the USSR, completely abandoning the concept of using light ones. In total, only 85 T-80 units were made. They abandoned it urgently, since the number of medium and heavy tanks at the front in Germany was constantly growing.

And one more thing: a tank tractor

Both funny and menacing. / Photo: livejournal.com.

At the very beginning of the war, tanks were sorely lacking. During the defense of Odessa, KhTZ began to rivet such machines from tractors and parts of already destroyed T-26 tanks. In most cases, these wonder machines were used by defenders simply as dummies to distract the enemy's attention.
