5 stereotypes imposed from childhood about cleaning that can be abandoned

The floors need to be washed every day, every week the whole family needs to do a general cleaning, which takes all day, towels and bed linen must be ironed to kill bacteria. People have heard these and other stereotypes about cleaning since childhood and take them at face value. In fact, it doesn't take a huge amount of time and effort to make a house cleaner. Why - will tell Novate.ru.

Stereotype 1: General cleaning is mandatory

By spring cleaning, our parents meant a grueling marathon, lasting one or two days, in which all family members were involved. Some washed the family set and chandeliers, others washed and then ironed the curtains, and still others got rid of greasy deposits on the stove and hood. Generally, general cleaning was scheduled for Saturday, but could take an entire weekend. It was especially difficult before the holidays, when, during a heavy duty, everyone swore and spoiled each other's mood, and after that, any desire to celebrate something disappeared.

If you don't want such a thing as "spring cleaning" to haunt you for the rest of your life, just give it up. To do this, it will be necessary to carry out a number of preparatory steps: to revise all cabinets, bedside tables, mezzanines, balconies and other places that are collections of necessary and not so things. Once you've gotten rid of the items you haven't been using for a long time, you can start making a cleaning plan for the week and month. It must indicate what and when you will wash, clean. For example:

• Monday - dust, mop the floors.

• Tuesday - tidy up the windows.

• Wednesday - wash clothes and bedding.

• Thursday - clean kitchen cupboards, clean the stove, etc.

As you can see, cleaning should be planned in small portions. It should take a maximum of an hour per day, and ideally even less. In addition, you need to immediately eliminate "hot spots": make the bed, wash dishes, fold scattered things, sweep garbage at the front door, and so on. This is necessary so that household chores do not accumulate over time and turn into a big snowball. If you adhere to these conditions, you can forget about the heavy large-scale cleaning-duty.

Stereotype 2: Only an iron can kill bacteria

You will be surprised to learn that there are not so many things that must be ironed, and they are all in your closet. As for towels, bathrobes, bed linen, they will do without the influence of an iron. If we approach the issue from the side of cleanliness and safety, then we can say the following: bacteria, which accumulate on the above items are destroyed during washing at a temperature of 60 degrees. You can also use a number of other methods, for example, dry clothes in a dryer or turn on a special mode in the washing machine. This will be enough to get rid of all harmful microorganisms.

Stereotype 3: The dirtiest place in the house is the toilet

In fact, one cannot be limited to one toilet in this matter. There are several places in the apartment that are most polluted, and they all need careful and regular cleaning. The list of zones that are not inferior to a bathroom in terms of the amount of dirt and bacteria includes the following:

• Technique - the phone screen, mouse, keyboard, laptop and TV surfaces always look more or less clean. Even if you have not wiped them for several months, these items still do not cause disgust. But they should, because a huge number of bacteria accumulate on them. Therefore, equipment should be disinfected regularly - ideally once or twice a week.

• Water Filter - Given the quality of the tap water, it is not surprising that many people prefer in-line or free-standing filters designed to purify it. Visually, tap water seems clean and transparent, so it seems to us that everything is in order with it. And now we return to reality - if you forget to change the filters in time, after them the water quality will be worse than in the original version, as it will additionally be polluted. That is why cleaning elements must be changed strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.

• Cabinet surfaces and high shelves - these areas are rarely washed because they are difficult to reach. As a result, cleaning is postponed until all family members get together for occupational therapy, and a stepladder will be needed to do many things. However, there is one caveat - the dust that settles at the top of cabinets and shelves is blown down every time the room is ventilated and clogs the air.

• Hallway - Hallway floors are often much more dangerous than any other area in the apartment. This is due to the chemicals used to remove snow and clean the streets, which we bring home with our shoes. Therefore, in the hallway, you regularly need to wet clean using cleaning agents, and store outdoor shoes in special boxes.

• A shelf with toothbrushes and hooks for towels - so we got to the bathroom, in which the toilet, contrary to popular belief, is far from the dirtiest place. The greatest threat in the bathroom is bacteria, which, thanks to the humid environment, multiply on towels, toothbrushes, makeup brushes, and combs. Any items that come into contact with skin and hair must be disinfected regularly. Also, do not forget to leave the bathroom door open after water treatment so that the moisture evaporates faster.

Stereotype 4: The main thing is to wash the floors

Unfortunately, if you do not first remove dust from all surfaces, then wet cleaning of floors will be of no use. Uncleared dust will settle on the washed floor in a short time and nullify all your efforts and wasted time. To get the most out of your cleaning, start by dusting with a damp microfiber cloth before cleaning the floors. It will turn out faster and better.

Stereotype 5: Decor and textiles are dust collectors

Dust collects on curtains and figurines over time

Very often people refuse curtains, carpets, decorative pillows, vases, compositions on the coffee table, as they believe that all these items will only collect dust. In fact, empty surfaces and floors along skirting boards pick up much more dirt than textiles and decor. Do not give up beautiful accessories and the opportunity to make the apartment much more comfortable. Just look for furniture with removable covers that can be washed in the washing machine and buy decorative items that are easy to clean under the tap. So much less time and effort will be spent on cleaning, and the interior of the rooms will not suffer.
