Several years ago, when it came to electric cars, it was unambiguously meant either something luxurious, or, on the contrary, small-sized for city driving. Even if electric cars are not yet ready to take over the whole world, however, now there are a variety of cars on this type of traction. For example, more recently, Swiss designers "boasted" a new large dump truck with an electric motor.
Swiss company Kuhn Schweitz presented to the general court its first electric truck, which, according to engineers, does not need to be refueled or charged. Today, the Swiss novelty is the largest electric truck in the world. The weight of the machine is 45 tons, and the carrying capacity is as much as 65 tons. And if with the "filling" everything is immediately clear, then with the "charging" it is no longer so easy.
Kuhn engineers used Komatsu HB 605-7 as the basis for their machine. The dump truck was equipped with a powerful battery with a capacity of 600 kW ∙ h, and this miracle of engineering weighs 4 tons. The capacity of the battery would be enough to power six civilian electric vehicles. The main achievement of the Swiss is that they have broken the pernicious stereotype of the inability of electric motors to cope with heavy career cars.

The most interesting thing is that the dump truck generates part of the energy for further movement on its own. So, in the case of a descent with a 13-degree slope, when the machine is loaded with 65 tons of cargo, the regenerative braking system is activated. Instead of braking in the old fashioned way, with brakes, deceleration is carried out by an electric motor, which switches to generator mode. This electricity is sent to the battery. There is so much energy that it is enough for one ascent of an empty car along the same upward slope. The truck makes about 20 trips every day. This mode allows you to save from 40 to 80 thousand liters of diesel fuel per year.
Note: It is far from the only electric truck in existence today. For example, one of the most anticipated similar cars in recent years is the Semi from Tesla Motors. But the exact date of the premiere of the tractor is still not known.
