When the battery has been serving for more than a year, it is not surprising that its charge sits down faster and faster. At some point, the operation of the battery will become completely impossible. Most of the models do not last longer than 3 years, the most persistent are able to last 5, while some masters claim that you can make the battery work for 10 years. The following tips will help you achieve this goal.
1. Cleanliness is the key to health
First of all, you should always keep the battery clean, as well as its terminals. "Oily" housing and contacts collect dust and dirt, and this, in turn, contributes to the leakage of the charge present in the battery. To make matters worse, oxidation and oiling will prevent the battery from fully charging from the mains or backup battery. Some of the valuable energy will be lost even during the charging stage.
2. Checking the mains voltage
Check the mains voltage regularly. This should be done not at all using the available instruments on the panel, but using a voltmeter. The procedure is simple and every motorist can learn how to do such a check himself. In most cases, the voltage should not drop below 13.5 Volts under load and be at 14.2 Volts without load.
3. Superfluous down with
In no case should you put extra batteries on the car for the energy consumer, of course, if you want to maximize the battery life. In any case, one should definitely not engage in amateur performances and stage something without qualified help. Because you can not only ditch the battery ahead of time, but also burn the car power grid.

4. Electrolyte check
For some reason, many drivers forget that the electrolyte in the batteries should be checked regularly at least once a quarter. Otherwise, if there is every chance to ride for a month or two with actually dry plates in the battery. Do I need to prepare at all that such a thing will never benefit the battery.

5. Level check
Finally, in no case should you forget about checking the charge level in the battery. This must be done every month in order, firstly, to "keep an eye on the pulse", and secondly, to compare the capacitance and voltage indicators. The latter should not fall below 12.5 Volts. Otherwise, this means that the battery has already lost at least half its charge.
Timely charging, proper care, keeping it clean and regular monitoring will extend the life of even cheap battery models by 1.5-2, or even 2-3 times.
