Subtleties of connecting a smart switch

  • Dec 14, 2020

Automation systems and microprocessor base have an increasing impact on human life. This is reflected not only in smart industries and next-generation vehicles, but also in the transformation of modern living. The "smart home" system is becoming widespread and popular, and an important place in it is occupied by... a simple switch, which few know about the correct connection.

The most useful feature of a smart switch is its convenience. The device is triggered by a simple command from a smartphone or remote control.

But there are also additional benefits:

  • Can be paired with a simple switch.
  • Availability of automatic or manual lighting control.
  • Setting the parameters to be triggered when a person appears in the room.

The device also provides an economical mode - turning on the light only when it gets dark.

How to connect a smart switch correctly

The main feature of a smart switch is that a neutral wire is required for it to function properly. In a simple switch, everything is much simpler - it is a phase conductor release.

The sequence of connecting the "smart" switch:

1. Lead a three-core wire to the switch. Connect the phase, neutral and third wires with any insulation color to the corresponding sockets on the device: the blue wire - at the "N" mark, at the "L" mark - the incoming phase, and the remaining conductor - at socket "L2".

2. Correctly connect the wires in the junction box: "L" from the switch - with the phase wire, "L2" - with phase conductor, which goes to the lamp, "N" from the switch - with zero input and zero, going to lamp.

3. Install the smart switch in place and close the junction box. To install the switch, a simple socket will be enough.

4. Check the circuit. If the device is connected to a control device, the red LED will light up, in standby mode - blue.

It is best to use WAGO universal terminals to connect conductors in a junction box.

It is not enough just to connect a "smart" device, it must also be configured correctly in order to use the functionality of the device in full.

To connect a smartphone to the switch, you need to: install the Smart Life application on the device, open it and go through a simple registration. Set the network search mode on the device, and select “Add device” in the smartphone. After that, it is enough to confirm the password of the home Wi-Fe network, and the device will be in full readiness.

The advantage of this installation is the ability to control the switch via the Internet. This means that there is no need to be near the device, you can even be on the other side of the city and turn on or off the lights at home using your smartphone. All you need to do is drive and connect to the worldwide information network.
