What can you do to avoid paying so much for electricity? 6+ Electrician's Tips & Tricks!

  • Dec 14, 2020

We can no longer imagine ourselves without numerous household electrical appliances. The flip side of their massive use is increasingly large electricity bills. At the same time, no one canceled inflation, from which an increase in the cost of a kilowatt-hour becomes inevitable, which is not always offset by a corresponding increase in wages. In such conditions, sooner or later, there is a natural desire to somehow reduce the amount of monthly incoming bills.

It is absolutely impossible to refuse the services of electric power companies, since alternative ways of obtaining electricity lead to even greater expenses. Therefore, there really is only one way left: to reduce the power consumption of numerous household appliances so that it does not affect the volume and quality of the functions performed. Let's take a look at a few of these possibilities.

1. Switching to a more economical refrigerator

The criterion for choosing a model when buying or replacing a refrigerator, along with the volume of the main and freezing chambers, as well as the cost, should also be the energy efficiency class. It is necessary to decisively abandon the models of the lower classes C and D in favor of devices of classes A, A + and A ++, Figure 1, since small savings on the purchase cost will be completely "eaten up" by the cost of the extra consumed within a year and a half electricity.

When installing the refrigerator, you should additionally check the standardized operating instructions free space around it, because cooling efficiency and consumption directly depend on it electricity.

2. Refusal of electrical heating

In the cold season, solving the problem of ensuring a normal temperature in residential premises is advisable start not by buying a more powerful electric heater, Figure 2, but by identifying leak points heat. These usually become window cracks and door leaks.

3. Use a laptop instead of a desktop computer

For the vast majority of computing and gaming tasks, the capabilities of a desktop computer are redundant. Switching to a laptop gives, at first glance, insignificant savings of the order of several tens of watts, but at the expense of long-term operation characteristic of computer technology provides as a result a significant resultant win.

In addition, you can always take your laptop with you. A desktop computer acts as a backup or guest machine, and a printer is often regularly connected to it.

4. Optimizing your washing machine

Modern washing machine, figure 4 due to the optimal selection of operating modes and application recommended detergents allow you to get a high quality wash at a water temperature of no more than 30 - 40 ° C. Taking this fact into account, it is advisable, if possible, to abandon boiling, which has little effect on the final result, but is accompanied by a very high energy consumption.

5. Purchase of a thermopot

Thermopot, Figure 5 is a relatively new, inexpensive and simple electrical device, the use of which allows to reduce the number of energy-consuming boiling cycles.

Due to good thermal insulation, it keeps water in a heated state for a long time, turning on only when necessary. The capacity of the internal tank of older models reaches 6 liters, which is enough for normal tea drinking even for a large family.

6. Keeping electrical equipment clean

The energy consumption of many powerful electrical appliances increases markedly when their working elements become dirty.

To obtain savings on this article, it is advisable:

  • regularly clean the dust container of the vacuum cleaner or use disposable dust bags, Figure 6;
  • descale the heaters of the washing machine and electric kettle by rinsing with appropriate cleaners.

Other little tricks

You can reduce power consumption by such techniques as:

  • using for local heating not portable air heaters, but warm floors;
  • installation of energy-saving light bulbs;
  • using motion sensors to turn on lighting (especially important for country houses);
  • switching to multi-tariff meters and switching on energy-intensive devices, if possible, at night.

The list goes on.

Conclusion

The foregoing shows that you can pay less for electricity, and, as estimates show, savings can reach 20 - 30%. The important thing is that all this is ensured by legal means and is available to everyone, subject to simple rules.
