First, traditional incandescent lamps, then fluorescent, then halogen and the latest creation of an electrical genius - LED products. Affordable price, minimum power consumption, standard plinth sizes - these are only advantages. But are LED bulbs really flawless?
The main disadvantage of LED lamps
Every owner of an apartment or private house has come across LED products. And after such an acquaintance, exceptionally pleasant impressions remain:
- These lamps consume several times less electricity.
- They have a long service life.
- The quality of lighting is many times higher than even halogen products, not to mention incandescent lamps.
- Almost any manufacturer of LED products provides a generous warranty period (1-2 years) for their creations.
But not many people know what is the main disadvantage of LEDs. The answer is simple: in additional electronics, which quickly fail.
An LED lamp is not only the LED itself, but also an electronic power supply designed to lower the voltage and current to acceptable parameters. The unit itself consists of several electronic parts: resistors, capacitors, varistors and other elements, but, unfortunately, it is very capricious about the fluctuation of the potential difference in the network.
Even a small voltage surge can damage fragile electronics, after which it remains only to hand over the lamp under warranty, or dispose of and purchase a new one. The same will be taken into account for more expensive LED products, the protection of which is designed for absolutely ideal network parameters.
If not LEDs, then what?
Halogen lamps. The best choice for any experienced electrician. Halogen products have a fairly neutral effect on vision, have no less long-term than LEDs have a lifespan, and the price is not too different, and some models may even cost cheaper.
Halogen lamps, unlike LED lamps, can be installed in tandem with a dimmer, and no special conditions are required for their disposal. In general, there are only advantages, to which the absence of harmful flicker and pleasant light should also be added.
What else can you choose instead of LEDs
If you have completely driven a corrosive customer into the corner of the frame, then you can always install fluorescent lamps with a standard E27 base. For such luminaires, starters and chokes are not needed, but only screw them securely into the socket. Of course, the flickering frequency of fluorescent lamps leaves much to be desired, but their consumption is much lower than that of standard products with a filament.
Should you pay attention to filament lamps? The answer is categorical: no! This is an overabundance of the past, a product with such low efficiency that it is difficult to imagine a similar analogue in modern electrical engineering. Therefore, incandescent lamps are best left in the last century, and not give preference to these products only because of the low price.
