After purchasing an LED lamp, each consumer expects that it will work for a long time and will serve the entire period guaranteed by the manufacturer. But most often it happens that after some time its light qualities deteriorate, and in some cases it completely fails. This explains the increased interest of users to find out the reasons for the deterioration of the performance of semiconductor illuminators.
Factors affecting the decline in lighting quality
The main reasons for the gradual degradation of LED lamps are:
- Exceeding the permissible current.
- Incorrectly selected thermal mode.
- Unsatisfactory quality of the semiconductor crystal.
- Poor build.
- Violation of operating rules.
Note: The period of continuous operation of LEDs declared by the manufacturer reaches 50-100 thousand hours.
The last statement is valid only if the current consumption of the cell does not exceed 20 mA. Some manufacturers, in order to save money, install low-quality LED products, the nominal current of which is only 5 mA. With an operating current of 20 mA, these devices work for some time, however, in this mode, their resource is reduced, and the glow intensity is noticeably reduced.
Thermal conditions and poor build quality
During the operation of the LED element, thermal energy is released, for the removal of which it is placed on a special platform used as a radiator (photo below).
The same manufacturers often use insufficient base area, which leads to overheating of the element and its failure.
The most common reason for degradation is the use of low-quality chips in production, assembled using long-outdated technologies. These techniques are mostly used in the production of mobile devices and are no longer used in LED lamps. Another factor that determines the duration of the lighting device's operation is the quality of the conveyor assembly, which does not always meet the requirements of current standards.
Violation of operating rules
Another fairly common reason for the deterioration of the performance of LED devices is the violation of the established operating rules. This statement most often applies to LED strips (photo below).
Even the cheapest Chinese tape based on LEDs can last long enough if you think over a system for removing excess heat from it. One of these methods involves fixing it to a specially prepared aluminum profile. In this case, the heat surplus will be safely dissipated into the surrounding space, which will exclude the possibility of overheating (photo below).
