Each profession has its own jargon, and this is absolutely normal, because people try to simplify certain processes, spending fewer words on the explanation, respectively, time. Electricians are no exception, and it's time to familiarize yourself with their jargon, so as not to fall face down in the dirt when dealing with people of this profession.

1. "Machine"

No, this is not a firearm, by no means! An automatic machine is an automatic switch, a device for disconnecting the network in the event of a short circuit or prolonged heating of the conductors. In common people it is also called a "bag".

2. "Phase"

A wire on which voltage is constantly "hanging". Very often you can hear the word "phase" instead of a phase conductor.

3. "Zero"

No potential conductor. If it is simpler - through the neutral wire, electricity returns back to the source. In full compliance with the energy conservation law.

4. "Calls"

There are devices with complex functionality: the ability to measure voltage, current, resistance, and in some devices even capacity! But one of the most useful in a multimeter is the function of determining the integrity of the wires - "continuity". If the wire is intact, then the electricians say that it “rings”.

5. "Control"

Indicator screwdriver, many also call it a probe. The electrician's most important tool for determining the "phase". There are also special indicator screwdrivers for "continuity" lines for integrity.

6. "One and a half or two and a half squares"

A simpler explanation of the conductor cross-section. Conductors with a cross section of 1.5 mm2 are most often "thrown" on the lighting line, and 2.5 mm2 - on power lines, for example, sockets.

7. "Shorty"

A sweet name for a short circuit is when the bare conductors of the "phase" and "zero" as a result of some process close together. "Shorty" can also be called "Kaze".

8. "Tseshka"

Now it is very rarely used in verbal use, and even then, more often by the masters of the last century. "Tseshka" is a multimeter, a device for measuring voltage, current and other electrical processes. This name remains from a similar device that was born in Soviet times - Ts20.

9. "Waga"

Universal self-clamping terminal block manufactured by the German company WAGO. Now the wizard is used everywhere, since they are very easy to use and do not require additional tools during installation.

10. "Swage"

Manual pressing tongs for crimping NSHV (pin sleeve tips). They allow you to create a reliable and durable connection of a wire and, for example, a circuit breaker.

11. "Uzoshka"

The residual current device is an RCD that reads the readings of the incoming and outgoing current, and in case of a sharp increase, it turns off the network. The RCD is installed in the shield to ensure the safety of users and will help in such cases as the fall of the phase wire on the body of the electrical device.

12. "Puncture"

The connection of conductors is not by means of a twist, a terminal or a sleeve, but by a puncture method. When a special device is attached to one wire, breaking through its insulation, and providing reliable contact with a current-carrying conductor. The second conductor can then be attached.
