Designer Evgenia Matveenko designed a small two-room apartment in an old 1930s house in the center of Moscow for a young man.
She was faced with the task of making the interior in a restrained style, but avoiding unnecessary "brutality". It was also important to preserve the interior details of the previous owner, the customer's grandfather, in the decoration.

The designer had to not only update the interior of the apartment, but create a new concept and make the room comfortable for a modern person.
Before the renovation, the furnishings were reminiscent of typical Soviet life: furniture from the 1960s, a small kitchen, and a tiny separate toilet and bathroom.
For the sake of achieving a sense of spaciousness, they made a redevelopment: they removed the wall between the corridor and the living room, and also combined the bathrooms.
Living room
The living room was divided into several zones. A place for work was allocated, which was delimited by a ceiling beam and a through rack.
A recreation area was set up in the adjacent territory. In the corner at the entrance, shelves for books from the family library and decor items were installed.
The connection with the past of the apartment is maintained by the herringbone parquet over forty years ago. Despite slight differences in height, the customer insisted on maintaining the coating. He inherited the apartment from his grandfather, and it was important for the grandson to preserve the memory of the previous owner.
A family heirloom was used for decoration - a stuffed crocodile, which the customer's grandfather brought from a business trip to Africa.
Kitchen
In the interior of the kitchen, neutral shades were also used. The floor was laid with large-format porcelain stoneware under the concrete, and the apron was decorated with marble-like porcelain stoneware.
Both materials are combined with a white set.
Bedroom
In the design of the bedroom, in accordance with the wishes of the owner, they made references to the loft style.
Brick tiles appeared on the wall, and black-and-white photos at the head of the bed, some of which were made by the customer himself.
Bathroom
To save space in the combined bathroom, the bathroom was replaced with a shower compartment.
In the interior, they also did without catchy details, relying on a simple combination of porcelain stoneware imitating wood and stone.
