Tone-on-tone interiors are becoming more and more popular. With the restraint of the palette, monochrome rooms catch the eye and look stylish. Designer Alexandra Dashkevich gave 6 recommendations that will help you use this technique advantageously.
6. Try to start small
It is best to try this technique out in the bathroom. Even if you eventually realize that such a solution is not entirely to your taste, a compact space will only benefit from monochrome execution.
To begin with, you can paint a small section of the room with your favorite color, look at it in different lighting conditions - daytime, evening, under the light of lamps.
5. Choose your favorite color
It often happens that a person cannot understand what color will be comfortable for him. In this case, it is worth looking into your wardrobe. Most likely, the color that prevails in your wardrobe, which you enjoy wearing, you will also be pleased to see in your interior.
4. Add a neutral component
In order to hold back the paint somewhat, it is recommended to leave one of the planes neutral. As a rule, the floor plays this role best in a tone-on-tone interior.
Choose a finish in a natural wood color or in lighter grays or beige tones. This will balance the big picture.
3. Make accents
If you took a monochrome scale as a base, then the accents should be appropriate. Highlight details with richer shades, but stay the same tone.
For example, reinforce the base with more eye-catching decor or textiles. So you diversify the interior and make it dynamic and interesting, without leaving the conceived aesthetic concept.
2. Use different textures
This is another effective way to dilute a monochrome room without going beyond the boundaries of the chosen color.
So, you can emphasize one of the walls with a new ornament or 3D panels, add elements with a glossy surface, choose an interesting decor, for example, from colored glass. There are a lot of options, and the main thing when choosing to stay true to the dominant tone.
1. Pay attention to the little things
With a monochrome palette, lines and textures take a lot of attention in the interior. Playing with different materials, as mentioned above, is a good way to diversify the restrained design in terms of color.
However, it is important not to overdo it. Consider the shape and surface of each item. An abundance of dissimilar details can scatter a tone-on-tone concept based on unity of elements. Therefore, both the decor and furniture for a monochrome room should be selected with great care.
