Good afternoon, my reader. Geranium (pelargonium) is an indoor flower of African origin. It differs from other domestic plants in that the aroma is emitted not so much by the inflorescences as by the leaves, and for this you need to touch them.

It has a huge variety of varieties that are not similar to each other, which is of interest to flower growers: many want to collect a collection of at least the most popular subspecies. But how do they differ from each other?

Ivy

Ampel type, the shoots of which can fall from the pot up to 1 meter. The name comes from the appearance of the leaves: star-shaped, bright green, resembling ivy.

Flowers come in a variety of colors, from snow-white to bluish-black. They grow up to 5 cm in diameter. They can be regular, double and semi-double.

It blooms for six months and from June to November (with proper care). Looks best on the walls of balconies, loggias and terraces.

Zonal

The most popular variety, divided into many subspecies. They are all united by a straight, vertically located trunk (and the same additional shoots), lush flowering and leaves with a red-brown edging. The height can be different: from 14 to 70 cm.

Flowers can be of different colors (and even multi-colored) and shapes (reminiscent of tulips, roses, chrysanthemums, stars, etc.).

Unique

A hybrid variety formed by crossing a brilliant and royal geranium. It turned out a plant with dark green dissected leaves with a slight aroma and small red flowers with a white center. Pink options are a little less common.

Fragrant

The name is no coincidence: this is the most fragrant type of geranium - one plant can fill an entire room with a smell. It may smell like rose, strawberry, mint, ginger, nutmeg, apple, lilac, but rather the aroma will resemble a mixture of something.

The flowers are purple or pink, the shape is different. The leaves are heavily indented, reminiscent of maple leaves.

Royal

The flowers are especially large (up to 16 cm) and varied: white, red, pink, purple... The petals are corrugated or wavy, they are double or regular, darker in the middle than at the edges.

The leaves are green, similar in shape to maple.

Angel

The flowers are not lush, but graceful, resembling "pansies" in shape. The plant itself reaches 35 cm in height and branches well. Blooms all summer.

The subspecies have white, pink, purple, lilac inflorescences, and the color is unevenly located, it is usually darker towards the middle of the petals. This is especially noticeable on the upper petals.

Succulent

It is not like other varieties of geranium: the trunk at the bottom is compacted, becoming similar to a wooden one, dense juicy stems, ending in a large carved leaf, diverge from it. Sometimes spines grow on the stems.

It has a bizarre curvature, which makes succulent pelargonium a unique interior decoration.

There are subspecies: corusoliferous, hunchbacked, fluffy, fleshy, angular and thick-stemmed geraniums, the names of which accurately describe the appearance.

Lemon

Unlike other varieties, lemon geranium has especially bright fluffy leaves of a complex shape.

It got its name due to the pungent lemon scent emitted when touched.
