Thinking over the interior design, people often pay the least attention to the hallway. But in vain: after all, this is the first thing we see when entering the house. How not to spoil your guests' first impression of your apartment?
Interior studio designers LOFT & HOME gave 6 recommendations that will help you decorate the hallway stylishly and functionally.
6. Create a prologue to your design
Use a few details to highlight the style that dominates your home. If we are talking about neoclassicism, then put the appropriate shoe bench or pouf.
If the corridor is small, then you can give free rein to the accent elements of the interior of your apartment. Try, for example, colors that contrast with the basic tone in the rooms.
5. Don't go overboard with the amount of furniture
The key factor is the parameters of the hallway. Based on them, adjust the degree of filling with furniture. If the room is a narrow corridor, then you should not try to fit a bulky closet here. Use the coat hanger you wear daily and a narrow bench.
It is better to equip a wardrobe in the area where the hallway goes into one of the rooms.
4. Provide yourself with comfort to the smallest detail when you return home
When planning the hallway, imagine well how you will enter the apartment: where to put the bag, and where to put the keys, where to put, for example, a stroller and so on. Also, keep in mind that sometimes you will not come home alone.
Provide a small table, sideboard, shelf or rack for everyday little things. What to choose from this - again depends on the footage of the corridor.
3. Make your lighting practical
Make the hallway as lightened as possible. Layouts with a window in the entrance area are rare, but it is almost always possible to provide natural light access to the corridor from the main part of the apartment.
If this is still impossible, or there is simply no effort or money for redevelopment, provide full lighting with the help of lighting fixtures.
2. Consider the finishing of the "dirty zone"
Decorating the "dirty area" of the hallway should be practical. The most important thing is to find the right flooring. It should be easy to clean. Tile or porcelain stoneware works best. It is not necessary to cover the entire floor in the room with these materials; it is enough to designate the entrance area with them.
It will not be superfluous to protect the walls in this part of the room. Especially if they are light. Use for decoration such as washable wallpaper or paint.
1. Don't exacerbate a tiny hallway with dark trim
A narrow narrow corridor should not be darkened. This will make it even smaller. On the contrary, light materials for decoration and mirrors will help to make the room more voluminous.
