What to do with an empty wall: 6 original design methods

  • Dec 15, 2020

When self-planning an interior, it often happens that one of the planes is left out of work. We think over the functionality of the kitchen, take care of the storage space, organize the space for sleeping and rest, and then come face to face with a "bare" wall.

Are you one of those who fell into this trap? Designer Alena Bolshakova told how to fix the situation.

6. Color and texture

The most obvious solution is to highlight the empty wall with color. It is not necessary to stop at using one shade - you can divide the walls into vertical or horizontal sections, or move colors in planes, for example, from wall to ceiling.

At the same time, you can add variety by including additional textures. A fabric panel or embossed decorative plaster will help add the desired dynamics.

5. Seamless wallpaper

Seamless wallpaper appeared on the market of finishing materials relatively recently. The absence of joint seams is explained by the roll height, which sometimes exceeds three meters.

The main task when choosing this design method is to level the side joints. Nevertheless, it can be easily solved if the wallpaper ends in the corners of the room. By choosing the patterned option, you can turn an empty wall into an accent wall.

4. Shine

A light panel can be a rather striking solution. As a rule, it is an image highlighted around the perimeter or in some areas. At the same time, the drawing is applied to glass or other material that can withstand high temperatures.

In some variations, the panel is not formed around the picture, but is built directly using the light itself. Use an LED strip to create such a composition.

3. Framework

Correctly grouping multiple frames of different sizes will help create a single composition and bring white space to life. Note that pictures are not at all a prerequisite. Sometimes the frames look quite meaningful and appropriate without them. After all, why not try to play Malevich.

2. Tree

An eco-friendly solution would be to use wood panels or slats. Today, designers offer many different variations of their appearance. Easy to play with both shape and colors. When using slats, spot lighting can be arranged in alternating recesses.

1. Mirrors

We all remember that mirrors have the ability to visually enlarge space. Despite the fact that many people give them a place in the bathroom or corridor, mirrors will perfectly fit into the interior of other rooms.

Find a frame that matches the overall mood of the space and you are guaranteed an outstanding decor item. Remember that empty walls are always in the context of the overall interior of the room. It is from this very context that you need to build on when choosing a solution that is suitable specifically for your home.
